Hi Pam,

Check BEI chem. co. I believe they sell lime. The sell fertilizer and other chemicals. Decent prices. I get all of my fertilizer there.

Is it for the soil or coquis?

if it is the soil - try finding someone doing drywall and get the scraps for the garden.

Cat, it is for spreading under fruit trees to burn out the grass. You spread the lime, then put rock/cinder and then mulch. Grass dies out, rock/cinder and mulch work their way into the ground. Good for the trees and reduces mowing maint.

Pam,
Would putting card board does and the rock on top does the same thing? How much lime do you put?

It's another one of my "experiments but it is supposed to "prep" the soil to receive fertilizer. Idea is to spread the lime generously, it kills off the grass, soaks into the ground and two weeks later you fertilize.

I am unsure.... just another trial!

As suggested by UHAg, usually x tons per acre! This lime usually refers to ground (x fine) coral, made specifically by state for soil liming, and it raises the PH! This one doesn't burn but lasts for a long time!
The burning one is slaked lime (coqui killer) burns, quickly adjusts PH, but requires constant reaplication!
The organics usualluy use dolomite, high grade dolomitic limestone(contains magnesium, recomended for island soils!) Not burning! Expensive!

gtill,
hey, you one good 'un on the soil chemistry.
for real! you got it right on.
the 'burning' grass business does sound peculiar.
maybe that would be with hydrated lime?
