Backyard Conservation Classes
#1
Aloha everyone,

The first of this 2-part class is coming up this Saturday and there are still a few seats left. Both classes will be held from 1-4PM at SPACE behind Kalapana Seaview Estates. It should be really fun - check it out:

Backyard Conservation in Lower Puna

Learn the basics of good environmental stewardship in this two part class designed to help Lower Puna residents develop beautiful landscapes in harmony with our native plant communities. Classes will be rooted in principals of environmental science and sustainable design.

Saturday, April 12, 1-4PM
Introduction to Puna's Lowland Ecosytems
In this class we'll discuss Lower Puna's natural history, focusing on the various plant communities, the factors that shape them and how they've changed through time. This material will be the basis for the following class.

Saturday, May 3, 1-4PM
Nurturing a Piece of Lower Puna
This class will focus on strategies to integrate food and exotic ornamental plants into the landscape, how to preserve and restore native species, how to manage invasive weed species, and how to select and use native plants in the landscape.

Each class is $35 or $60 pre-paid for both

I wish I would have known further in advance. Is there any way to work together to schedule future classes? This sounds great. And I'd like to help promote it -- I just can't make this one with only a weeks notice.

Les and John, thanks for your support! Apologies for posting with such short notice. I do hope to offer them again in the near future and I'll be able to schedule the next ones soon. I designed them in such a way that you could take them in either order if neccessary. I'll keep everyone posted!

Mahalo!

I guess there are a lot of witty answers to that question, Quickie.... But my classes will be at S.P.A.C.E. (Seaview Performing Arts Center for Education) in the back of Kalapana Seaview Estates. See you there!

Hello new friends -

I'm the Webmaster for Volcano Community Association (we do the "Building in the Forest" brochure). (Thanks SO MUCH for your offers to give refuge from Pele's recent odiferous activities!)

--> I just heard about an outstanding class by Mitzi Messick, ULUHE DESIGN - she's been helping us design gardern paths for my mom (electric scooter). SHE's GREAT !!! I really recommend you take advantage of some classes she's offering on Backyard Conservation.

--> The first of this 2-part class is coming up TODAY [/b] [/red] (Sat April 12) and there are still a few seats left. If I lived in Puna I'D BE THERE! See notice below:
