Can people refer me to any good but affordable architects for homes on Hilo side? I'm looking to build an approximately 2,000 sq ft home and to use as much in the way of locally available materials as feasible. I'm not interested in package homes or standard designs.
What are standard architect fees on the Big Island?

I can do floor plans for you. I'm not a pro or anything. I've been working with some software designing houses.

Try Kevin at Island Drafting. He does a great job!

If Taylor McMahel, McMahel Design, be very careful. Believe my past with him is in the archives.

Dave Holbrook is a good draftsman and carpenter (so he has practical experience in addition to the drafting skills). He also has a lot of contacts throughout the construction trades here.

There was an architect named John who post here on and off, very interested in "green" building and design. I'm not sure if he is on or off island right now. I think he goes by John the Architect here, try the search feature.

Does anybody has an idea of how much a real architect will charge for the floor plan of a 1700 sf home?
