how much should i pay for a rock wall?
#1
i want to build a 6 ft high rock wall at the front of my property in hpp, along the street on the narrow end of the acre. there will also be a gate for my driveway. how much can I expect to pay for just the wall? just asking for ballpark estimates here because i really have no idea how much these things cost and i dont want to get ripped off. also if you have any recommendations for good wall builders please let me know.

Thanks!

Perhaps this is a minor point but a 6' tall wall at the front of your property is generally not legal. 4' front height and 6' on side property lines.

It's been awhile but last wall I had built ran about $10 psf.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I would recommend Keni; he did our rock work in HPP a few years ago and it was very well done. His cell was 808 769 3308

6' is OK in HPP except the corner lots at intersections, it's in the bylaws somewhere

Fence height is also regulated by County zoning, where applicable.

This creates an amusing scenario: I build a six-foot wall on a corner of two "private" roads, later these become "County public" roads, do I have to tear down half the wall?

Wouldn't they be "grandfathered" in?

county code

the yes

EXCEPTIONS: A permit is not required forSad16) Fences 6'-0" or less in height.

and the no

Section 22-2.2. Intersection sight distance.
(a) To preserve adequate vehicular sight distance at intersections formed by two or more County streets, no
object with a height between three feet and eight feet above the nearest surface of the County street shall
be allowed within the area defined by the chord of an arc having a radius of thirty feet from the
intersection of property lines or their extensions that form the intersection.

Exactly my point. Emphasis mine. Your mileage may vary. Void where prohibited.

Ballpark may be about $12.50 a square foot of face, or if 6' high then $75.00 a linear foot. Maybe a shorter fence would work.

If you didn't already know its common around here to do the shorter rock wall and then top or cap it with a chain link fence. This is then often closely associated with a hedge like: ixora, croton, podocarpus, or bouganvillea.

Just an observation on what I see in the area.
