Has anyone installed them successfully (meaning no leaks and worked as expected)?
It looks like they cost about $350 for a mid range one. How well do they mount on a metal roof? Who does this kind of work?
I did a search, but what I found didn't answer my questions....

We put in a gable mount one, so our experience will not help, but have seen them installed much like any attic mount ....either
get a flat section for the mount that goes from the roof ridge down (HPM roofing makes them for their metal roofing, if you are not sure who made your roofing, can always to the measure to see...),
get flexible flashing (many are lead so those are not good for catchment) that fits the cowl of the vent (not really a great method as you can get some damming of water behind the flashing) or
cut a hole & just stick it in with a lot of rubber flashing tape (I would never recommend this method, nor do any roofing texts I have found, but it is really common on this island to pack any roof puka with that tape and call it done!... course you are gunna have problems down the line, but you can always use more o that tape....sooo...)

I had one installed by contractor (808-966-5422) very pricey, but top of the line. They made a custom flashing which they stuck under the metal roof cap and extended down over the fan no caulking, no adhesive and no leaks as the water has no way to get under flashing. I am very happy with this and with good soffit vents, and radiant barrier I installed I was able to lower attic temperature by 6 degrees which may not seem much but it does help. Hopefully it will help with keeping mildew out of the attic also. Note! Does not help with high humidity days that's what the garden hose is for.

Aloha EightFingers,
All the information given to you so far has been spot on. I am a licensed General contractor and have installed several solar fans. If you can read a tape measure, follow simple instruction, and have a few basic tools, installation is really quite simple. Here is a short YouTube video to show you just how simple it can be.

Do you have a hip roof or a gable roof? If you have a gable roof then a gable mount fan will do the job, will be far less costly and won't require a roof penetration. I have 3 of them installed: 1 for my attic above the house, 1 for the attic above my garage and 1 for my actual garage space (To exhaust funes and move air while I work in there).

If your gonna gable vent, go buy 4 box fans and a 300 watt panel. Will keep all 4 humming plus extra juice can be sent back to the battery bank.
I looked into these vents. Free shipping.

I hear that the motors burn out fast and aren't covered under the warranty even if they say they have X year usually it excludes the motor. But anyway. These are the 30-50 watt fans, and moved a lot more air than HD does. I was going to buy two of them at one point. The 4 box fans move a lot more air and a lot cheaper/Plus no holes in the roof but you need gable ends obviously.

UsGuys,
Unfortunately, I don't have the right tool(s) to cut the roof metal, or I would probably just do it myself. Maybe I could rent a nibbler at HD....I was hoping someone would know someone that could bang this out in an hour......
My roof is a hip roof so no gable venting.
