Panaewa Farm Traffic Safety Improvements
https://hilo.hawaii.edu/uhh/planning/pro...roject=372
This is the latest update I received regarding this project:
*Project Scope*:
The scope of the project includes the installation of acceleration and deceleration lanes at the entrance to the UHH Farm on both the Hilo bound and Keaau bound lanes of the Hawaii Belt Highway.
*Since the January 2017 update, the project completion is delayed due to two issues*:
Delay due to submittal and review/ approval of the In-bound Traffic Management Plan which took approximately 3 months.
Delay in the connection of the existing traffic sensor. The existing traffic sensor could not be connected per plans and needs to be replaced. The contractor, the design team and the DOT are working together to get this issue resolved in order to minimize any additional delays.
*Project Status*:
Steps are being taken to minimize traffic disruption. One acceleration and one deceleration lane have been completed and are scheduled to be striped shortly. The guardrails will also be installed. There is only between
10-15 feet of paving left on the other acceleration and deceleration lanes where the sensors need to be replaced. The contractor is working on scheduling this work.
By middle of August 2017, the one acceleration lane from Keaau in-bound to Hilo and the one deceleration lane from Hilo towards Keaau will be opened for use.
We anticipate project completion by November 2017.
*Additional Detail*:
Deceleration lanes are 560 feet long and the acceleration lanes are 1200 feet long. These lengths exclude the 180 foot taper transition for each. Additional improvements include the installation of 10 each LED street lights. Appropriate and required guardrails, signage, traffic counter
