Question:
Does Ainaloa BOULEVARD connect to Rd 9 in Hawaiian Acres?
What about Ainaloa ROAD to G Road?
Is G Road or F Road in better condition?

Ainaloa BLVD connects to 9 between F and G.
Ainaloa DRIVE may connect to G via Stardust Drive IF driving a lifted 4x4.
F and G are both "gnarly" but G is far more "interesting" (and it connects through to Anthurium St in Fern Acres).
Some maps show Orchidland's Keala St connecting through to Hawaiian Acres Road 9 -- again, requires a lifted 4x4.

Thanks!
So Ainaloa Blvd to Road 9 to F is possible in a van with a truck frame?
Then, headed up F is a slow slog around the usual potholes, rivulets, and lava humps?

It is possible in any car, etc. It is a county emergency route, as of a few years ago, so it is paved, but still a little roller-coastery. 9th and F are paved to 8th and 8th is paved on to the road to Volcano.

Ainaloa to 9 to F to 8 is paved. One you get mauka of 8&F it's the usual acres roads. (Slow, scenic, family pet and horse friendly, seasonal lakes and streams, etc.) Don't forget to wave, and pull over to let people leaving the acres pass.

You can also get to Hilo from Ainaloa Blvd the back way. Don't know all the road names and numbers, but I use the route fairly often.

If you're coming from lower Puna, HPP, OLE, etc en route to Mt. View, Glenwood, Volcano, etc, the "back way" will usually save you a lot of time.
There is also a back way through OLE that connects to Olaa near J. Hara but it does require a short distance on an unpaved road that DEFINITELY DOES flood during heavy rains. I don't think it will save you any time but its good to know for emergency use only. (It is a private subdivision, after all).
