Aloha folks,
I'm Rourk and we are taking the plunge and buying a place in Seaview. It is closing mid August[
] and I was wondering how hard it is to get DSL or satellite for internet. I heard that DSL is hard to get on the Puna coast.
My partner and I have been going to Puna for years and we are so excited to finally have a place in such a wonderful and special place. I have been reading the post here for the the past month and I hope I get a chance to meet some of you soon.

I think it's an easy choice since I don't believe DSL is available in Seaview.[

Last I checked you could not get satellite in Hawaii. I have friends in the "out back" that use cell phone internet that is fast.

Dsl is available through Hawaiiantel but you must be on their waiting list and then others must cancel their service. AWS wireless is also an option that some use if you can't get dsl. Satellite Internet is available but very expensive for adequate bandwidth.

Rumor has it that Verizon is putting up a new tower near Green Lake... so better coverage down here in probably 6 months (so could use an air card).

There are no new or pending applications for a tower anywhere near there and until there are, this is just what Cat said it was, a rumor.

I have also heard that there may not actually be a waiting list for Hawaiiantel even though they may tell you there is one!

We are just down the road from Seaview in Kehena Beach Estates. We have DSL through Hawaiiantel. We have friends in Seaview that have DSL. We signed up for phone service as soon as it was possible while our home was being built. We were put on the waiting list for DSL at that time. It was perhaps a month before DSL became available. At the time we had our phone installed the installer told us that DSL was not available to us at all in this area. The service is not as fast as some, I understand, but dial-up was all we were able to get in our area on the mainland so it seems good to us.

Send a message to robguz or wyatt that post on the forum. They are in Seaview and can give you lots of info. David M on the forum has satellite and can give you some info on that. Seaview is a great place, I have had a lot there for years. Plan to build on it one day!

Where can you check the applications? I would like to and let the person know who told me this.
