I guess this is what happens to some people when they see a different point of view.

"Astronomers at an observatory at the summit of Haleakala on Maui have quietly made an important discovery: a previously unknown “Trojan” near-earth asteroid that is the largest yet discovered (about ¾ of a mile in diameter). Trojan asteroids are unique in that they share earth’s orbit around the sun. The space object has been named 2020 XL5."

When does the discussion about decommissioning the observatories on Haleakala begin?

decommissioning the observatories on Haleakala

Protestors tried to block construction of the solar observatory on Haleakala.  They were removed from the road, pulled out from under the truck, arrested, and that was that.  And unlike Mauna Kea, Haleakala does have military observatories there (one tested Reagan’s Star Wars laser), military space tracking, military personnel.

They also track space asteroids headed toward earth.

What point of view would that be?

Please help me out here. Discovering an asteroid using the telescopes on Haleakala, which they're designed to do, leads to a question about why there's no discussion about decommissioning those telescopes. The MK observatories also observe trojan asteroids. What is your point?

Haleakala detected the asteroid without building any new telescopes?

If only there was a DOD presence on MK, then the TMT would have been built already.

That’s true

Ironic isn’t it?
“Protectors” claim the observatories on Mauna Kea are military, but the fact that protestors weren’t arrested, TMT construction didn’t proceed catches them in their lie, and leaves them free to continue spreading the lie.
More irony, “Protectors” protest that the observatories cause pollution of the MK water table by parking old oil leaking cars & trucks across the MK water table and leaving their garbage spread across the aina for the county to clean up.  So their decomposing trash won’t leach into the water table.

You are not a tolerant person, that reflects poorly on you not them. Try talk and share aloha, or go home.
