Speeding on the Coast Highway
#1
.    You got to hand it to that County Public Works dame; she really knows how to run a meeting!  Friday's update on the Reconstruction of Puna's Lava Inundated Roads Project probably set a new speed record by clocking in at only seven minutes.  And every question from the audience was answered!  That's a skill they should teach in high schools.

Of course, there wasn't really all that much to talk about.  Basically, starting at 4-Corners, 4000 feet of rough grading has been done on Highway 137 so far, and at this point the equipment is still on the job site.  The target date for completing this phase is July, but scouts are still being sent out ahead to further investigate the roadway for more surprises.  As was reported last month, the most recent snafu -- generally blamed on the surveyors the County hired -- ended up costing taxpayers a bit under a million dollars and slowed the project down by four months.  With that kind of motivation the contractor shouldn't have any trouble finding something else to jack up the price again.

After grading, the waterline will be buried in a trench scraped out of the lava, and eventually the paving will be done (to the joy of all the street racers in Puna.)  It will be up to the contractor to decide at which end to start installing the waterline, but since it can't be activated until the road between PGV and Pohoiki is finished, the issue is moot.  Regarding the Upper and Lower Pohoiki Road rehabilitation project, that contract is still under negotiation, so there are still no boots on the pahoehoe.

And the seven minutes are up.

Well, goes to show you that if you want efficiency, put a woman in charge!

And as further proof, look at how long it's taken for all these "manly men" to rebuild this damn road!

Can’t resist.

Are your words an example of misandry? Hopefully I am misinterpreting your comments since that would seem to be somewhat, shall we say, _inconsistent_ with your many claims of misogyny. Or would that be considered very consistent?

OTOH, you didn’t claim the OP was guilty of same with the use of the word “dame”. Wink

This post is intended to be lighthearted, not antagonistic, since I identify as a [deleted word considered among the most misogynistic].

Cheers,
Kirt

"Can’t resist."

Neither can I.

"This post is intended to be lighthearted, not antagonistic, since I identify as a [deleted word considered among the most misogynistic]."

So was my post.

As for whatever it is you identify as, I am quite surprised you would admit it to being (the most) misogynistic, but at least you're honest with yourself.

I'd say that you not only have misrepresented my words, but you clearly do also not understand my words. Did using the term "manly men" come off as misandry to you?

"Examples of manly men" (From Google AI)

"Clint Eastwood, John Garfield, Jimmy Stewart, Kirk Douglas, James Cagney, Marlon Brando, Humphrey Bogart, Rocky Marciano, Mickey Mantle, and Muhammad Ali."

Further, I would assume that you understand and would know the definition of and proper use of the word "Dame," but it's clear you don't.

Let's open up our Merriam-Webster English Dictionary once again:

Dame Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

I don't think comparing a woman being called a "dame" relates in any fashion to being called a word that rhymes with itch, but then, maybe to you, I am splitting hairs.

Further, in the UK, the title of "Dame" is a title given to women that is equivalent to the rank of knighthood. It is one of the highest honors in the UK. The equivalent male counterpart is given the title "Sir."

At any event, carry on!

Absolutely. Despite working hard, I wasn't given a knighthood, so I left the country. But others are given the title. Not that I'm upset about it. While I was there, I got to meet the Queen's mother and some prince. I have no idea who he was, but I think he lived in Kent, and he had an impressive beard.

Unfortunately, over 20 years ago, I had the misfortune of meeting Prince Andrew in Hawaii. He was an asshole. Anyway, Dame Edna:

Prince Andrew in Hawaii

A-hole indeed. His chickens are coming home to roost, as well. What was impressive about the beard?  Length? Form?
I wish you all the best

I loved Dame Edna! Such a funny talented individual. And his other alter ego, Sir Les Patterson. Brilliantly funny!

I wonder, would Dame Edna even be allowed to perform here in America Hawaii today if still alive?

It was Prince Michael of Kent. He visited the nursing home I worked at as a student to make a little extra money (not him, money for me!). The beard was full and groomed in only a way a royal could afford! He had a kind of Sean Connery look about him and he was actually very pleasant to talk to, unlike Andrew who was an unpleasant snob.

PS. That photo was taken about 25 years after I met him.

That is an impressive beard!  Thank you for the photo.  I didn't realize beard maintenance was so expensive.
I wish you all the best
