We just bought 30 acres on N. Glenwood Rd. We are very excited and are coming to Puna for the month of October to scout the land, see where the wind blows the water flows, etc.... and decide where to build a house. We need to find a building contractor We need to buy a used tractor mostly for cutting grass but would like to be able to have attachments to build a road if possible.... lastly, would love to meet new friends and neighbors in the area.
Mahalo.
May you live in interesting times.

It's time for an Atlanta Soon to Hawaiians party. Wednesday September 29 at The Masquerade at 7:30 pm. The Aloha Live tour is hitting the Big Peach.
This should be a lot of fun. We will meet before the show for a quickie dinner and then enjoy Hawaiian music. It you are new to the forum and in the Atlanta area you should really consider this. We have a great bunch of folks and throw great parties. It is so nice to spend an evening not having to explain"yes you can own land in Hawaii, no milk does not cost $6 a gallon, yes it is part of the United States, no I am more afraid of tornados, hurricaines and Atlanta traffic than the volcano & tidal waves, no I am not insane and everyone understands that feeling of deplaning when you are at your "real home". And I think we have the best record for getting people moved. All the guys in our group love to help folks pack their containers and Sophie & I are real good at watching. And if you are real lucky I will host a party soon and you will get to meet my dogs!!!!!!!!!! What better incentive than to throw on an Aloha shirt or coconut bra and head in town for a night of fun!!!!!
e-mail me if you are interested in attending
here is a link for the show http://www.alohalive.com/tour.asp
We all met through Konaweb so we are not internet weirdos. Everybody in the group is moving to different parts of the island and we have already had a lot of of friends move on over to HOVE, Puna, S. Kona, Hamakua & Hilo. Just post a response if interested and I'll get in touch with you.

Surfing and more |

We are thinking of moving to the Big Island, the wet side, and are in research mode. Puna is the area we are most interested in. We hope to visit soon. I'm hoping that someone can answer some of our questions. Can anyone tell me where the nearest surfing spots are that break year-round? Are the prices of land and homes going up as quickly as realtors would have us believe (they have a tendancy to want to create a sense of urgency)? I've heard that there are buses to Hilo, but do they stop in Hawaiian Paradise Park, any of the other subdivisions, or do they just stop in town? Also, for my work I need some type of fast Internet connection (HSI or DSL). Is that available? Thanks very much. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Clearing land |

Hi All,
We're in the process of clearing a lot in Paradise Park, in preparation for building. We're debating on whether we should hand clear or to bulldoze. We initially did not even consider bulldozing as we want to use the lava in its natural form as part of the landscaping but were recently told that a bulldozer can be used to remove the trees and other plant material and still leave the lava intact.
Any recommendations on what we should use? Any ideas on the typical cost for work like this?
Also, any recommendations on professionals who do this type of work is greatly appreciated.
The lot contains several ironwood trees and is a half acre.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, (Aloha) I must get used to saying 'Aloha' seeing as my wife and I are moving to the big island.
Does anyone know what is best? Should we purchase a 'jeep' or 'Landrover' here in california and pay around $2,000.00 to have it shipped to the big island? Or would it work out cheaper to buy the same type of car when we arrive? Thank you. The 'Cockney' half of british couple. I would love to hear from any other 'Cockneys' living in Hawaii. A 'cockney' is someone that was born within the sound of 'Bow' bells church in East London (See the movie 'My fair lady')...Apoligies if I bore folks, I just love cultural history.

New shopping in Pahoa |

I just read something about the new shopping plaza in Pahoa. Which stores are going in? The Ace & a full sized grocery will be a welcome addition. But I hope it isn't a big ugly metal building. I hope they try to use some landscaping etc around the building. I also heard that Cash & Carry is finally going to break ground on the new store. Any ideas if it will be different than the current location? Another resturant would be nice too but I would hate to see a lot of chain type places come in.

Anyone know if they do Propane delivery in Puna area?...we're hoping to move to Fern Acres and wondered if we'd have to lug the tanks back and forth to get them refilled or do people deliver and how much does that cost?

We have land in Fern Acres in Mountain View. We will probably move there in two years. Would like to know about good surf spots on the east side. We already know about Honolii-visited it last summer and it looks great. Any other good places you can tell us about so that we can look forward to checking them out?

Aloha, my name is Joshua and my wife and I are planning to visit there from Kauai next week. We aren't able to afford a house here on Kauai...virtually nothing under 200,000 here! So we've been searching online in Hilo and Puna. Are there any transplants from Kauai out there? any comparisons? We live in Hanapepe and love the small town feeling. We are hoping we will love the east side and move there. I was surprised by the difference in price in Puna and Hilo area...anyone have any ideas why Puna is so much cheaper than Hilo? Any info would be much appreciated.
