RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - PaulW - 10-03-2017 I hope your job as a greenskeeper doesn't involve you spreading deadly chemicals on the aina over there. Good to see you took your bigoted attitude (e.g. against immigrants) with you, we can always do with less of that over here. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 10-06-2017 Along with the THINK fund which is essentially funded by the TMT, the Maunakea Scholars program is also expanding giving more opportunities to Hawaii students to become involved in STEM-related projects. FYI, Gypsy, this will do more than teaching someone to take turns while showing them to remain humble and competitive - astronomy has a way of doing that. It will also show that hard work increases your chances of "good luck" and will certainly aid them in becoming mentally flexible and "much much more". More details here: http://www.hawaii.edu/news/2017/10/06/more-high-school-students-get-astronomical-viewing-time/ RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - galileo - 10-22-2017 quote: Brannon is an emotional trainwreck. If anyone missed his violent rant in 2015 you can read it at http://www.ilind.net/2015/04/24/obscenity-laced-facebook-post-calls-for-killing-telescope-supporters/ The strategy to "go emotional" was fruitless. Crying about being arrested, crying about the stress caused by participating in the contested case hearing - this is not an effective legal strategy. I predicted in February, "From what has been presented so far, the petitioners opposed to the TMT have not provided strong evidence that the TMT does not satisfy the eight criteria for construction in a conservation district. They are going to lose their case. DLNR will approve the CDUA." The TMT opponents needed a top US litigator like David Boies to have a shot at winning in the second hearing. They had more lawyers this time including Clarence Ching and Lanny Sinkin, but lost again. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Eric1600 - 10-23-2017 The TMT opponents needed a top US litigator like such as David Boies to to have a shot at winning in the second hearing. There had more lawyers this time including Clarence Ching and Lanny Sinkin, but they lost again. Perhaps. Their main strategy has been to force delays. That why they "fired" their lawyer so the large groups could go from something like 1 representative (their lawyer) to about 10 individuals who all had to have a turn at the podium. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 10-23-2017 Their main strategy has been to force delays. ...and it's not even an original strategy, they "borrowed" it, just like when they "borrow" that road to drive up to the MK summit. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - galileo - 10-23-2017 In 2015 Larry Sinkin was given money by Russia to attend a separatist conference in Moscow. http://www.russia-direct.org/opinion/kremlins-double-standards-make-it-harder-talk-west quote: Here's a picture of Larry at the meeting: https://echo.msk.ru/blog/bubenets/1626368-echo/ RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - leilaniguy - 10-23-2017 It's all Greek to me. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 10-23-2017 I hope the following link works. It's a google translation of Galileo's second link. Posted more for humor than anything else. https://goo.gl/pHfbTf RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Chunkster - 10-23-2017 Rooskies! I suspected it all along. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 10-23-2017 Or rookies? Just a side note, but sort of relates to the thread. Back in the late 80s when I was an undergraduate student, the Soviet Union would often boast that they had developed the largest optical telescope in the world. This was actually true, no other optical telescope on the planet had such a large primary mirror at the time. What they didn't tell the world is that it didn't work very well, was built in an abysmal location for optical astronomy and was designed so poorly that it could never compare with other observatories. It still exists to this day and after decades of upgrade attempts does perform reasonably well, but can't compete with any of the current Mauna Kea optical/IR telescopes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTA-6 |
