Only one Mauna Kea left on earth, so maybe it's time to spend the billions putting these xtra-large scopes into space.
HOTPE, The JWST should be able to spot the asteroid hurling towards earth as well. Let's hope Bruce Willis and his drilling crew are up for the challenge. jmo.

Exactly my point. Humans continue to bicker about who has more "rights" or "ownership" while flushing the planetary ecology (that we need in order to live) right down the crapper. Is a large telescope something we "really need"? Maybe, maybe not, but in any case it's a better use of our resources than extending copyrights on Mickey Mouse.
