RE: Campgrounds - Green - 06-07-2007 Thanks for the update on Kalopa park Wyatt, we will definetly check it out. Our experience at Spencer left me rather disilussioned. RE: Campgrounds - oink - 06-07-2007 Where do you go for wilderness type camping? Pua`a S. FL Big Islander to be. RE: Campgrounds - Carey - 06-07-2007 Just fyi, for county camping permits: http://www.ehawaii.gov/Hawaii_County/camping/exe/camp.cgi state camping permit info: http://www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dsp/fees.html NPS camping info for the island: http://www.nps.gov/havo/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm RE: Campgrounds - HiloHaole - 06-11-2007 There's an interesting article in the West Hawaii paper about Ho'okena. There were some racial attacks (the paper didn't use that terminology, but the article is clear that it was) at the campground. It takes 90 minutes for police to arrive. The security guard is there for permits the article says. He/she won't protect you. RE: Campgrounds - Kapohocat - 06-11-2007 quote: Back in the day.... when I first moved here 20 years ago we camped at Spencer's for two weeks (without a permit)... ha ha .... the last night the ranger came by and told us we needed a permit.... we told him we were moving into our house in Waimea the next day! He said okay "no need"... Times do change huh? We (almost) hated living our beautiful warm morning swims for a house in Waimea! RE: Campgrounds - Andrew - 06-13-2007 All are welcome. I have updated the Dive Hilo website with information & PHOTOS for the JUNE 27, 28 and 29 camp at Punaluu Black Sand Beach Park. Detailed info can be viewed at: http://www.divehilo.com/announcements.html ______________________________ DiveHilo Dive Club Website: http://www.divehilo.com/ RE: Campgrounds - jm minica - 06-13-2007 I rarely camp at the parks, because alot of the best camp spots are little out of the way places that most people dont even know are there. Facilities are nice, but I can do without them for a nice secluded camp site right on the ocean. I have heard nothing but good feedback on Kalopa. I lived at that park for a short period back in the late 80's when I got a job for Hamakua Sugar. It was primitive, but very beutiful back then. I'd love to check out the new facilities. Hey, maybe thats an idea for a Punaweb party. I hear the group facility can handle alot of people. Aloha, Mark RE: Campgrounds - mella l - 06-14-2007 Thanks for the photos Andrew, some great shots there! I can't make it but would love to attend one day. mella l |
