RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - AaronM - 08-23-2018 Had to see it to believe it but there are currently FIVE police vehicles and about SEVEN police officers guarding Rainbow Falls. Disgusting waste of resources. I spoke to two of them who are just sitting in their cars on the phone. Poor guys looked pretty sheepish. Shameful management practices, imho. RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - AaronM - 08-23-2018 And Two DLNR trucks at Peepee Falls! RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - ironyak - 08-23-2018 Sorry terracore, not a party issue. Just the non-partisan creep of police powers motivated by the extra pay involved. There is a vested interest in restricting access to public lands under the justification of protecting safety. Officials can top off the coffers with a few fines just to make the point clear. Can complain to the Mayor's Office (manages the related roads on our behalf) or DLNR (manages the Falls area on our behalf) or can continue to shout into the void here. Mayor's Office: (808) 961-8211 DLNR: (808) 587-0400 RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - AaronM - 08-23-2018 And three more HPD at the top of Wainuenue by the bridge. That's Eight police vehicles to save people from themselves. Is this okay or am I overreacting? Seems like a large part of our resources tied up in one little spot! RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - kalakoa - 08-23-2018 Eight police vehicles to save people from themselves. Good thing we passed that GET increase so we can afford this. RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - punaticbychoice - 08-23-2018 kalakoa: Just in general on this situation, couldn't have said it any better. Ironyak @ 15:58:36 08/23/2018. Yes make your thoughts known. Harry (the gift) Kim 808-961-8211. And DLNR (the mystery religion) 808-586-0400 or maybe DOCARE @ 643-3567 (Enforcement) hawaii.gov/dlnr/docare DLNR is quite a thicket of- whatever. Anyway. RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - kalakoa - 08-23-2018 Yes make your thoughts known. I was thinking more like media exposure. Too bad we can't get Jon Stewart on this, pictures of us being "protected" backed by audio testimony about the "gift". RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - Midnight Rambler - 08-23-2018 FWIW, the Wailuku is absolutely insane right now. Since 6:30PM the discharge rate has more than tripled to 82,000 cubic feet per second (the previous record was 80,200), and the river level has risen by 8 feet above what it normally tops out at during floods, to nearly 24 feet. I'd love to see what it looks like but aside from being potentially extremely dangerous, it's dark out! RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - Obie - 08-23-2018 "The Hawaii Police Department reports that flooding on Kaiulani Street on Reeds Island has prompted the voluntary evacuation of residents. Kaiulani Street is closed until further notice. Police and Fire personnel are going house to house informing residents of severe flooding and recommending evacuation. If residents do not evacuate, first responders may not be able to reach them if the situation becomes too hazardous." You don't suppose the heavy police presence is due to the fact that water is running down Kaiulani Street and people are evacuating their homes ? RE: Rain abates in Hilo--but don't go to Rainbow Falls - hikatz - 08-23-2018 Hawaii News Now latest update 8/24, includes photos of the flooding across Hawaii. http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/38949134/big-island-sees-more-than-foot-of-rain-and-the-showers-wont-let-up http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2018/08/23/video-hurricane-lane-flash-flood-dangers-continue-for-hawaii/ if you scroll down, the list of the closures for Friday 8/25 includes all post offices and mail delivery. |
