We got a 20 foot container. It was preety high off the ground, about 8 ft. (From memory, others can probablly give you an exact number). I got a ramp from the local uhaul. It was a bit dangerous, but if you have help you can get it done. Hope that helps.

Sorry to ask about this but why was the ramp ordeal dangerous. We are doing the same, (getting our stuff loaded/shipped through Westpoint this friday from Cali) and unloading ourselves (2 of us) when it arrives.

We shipped both a 20 and 40, several months apart. Check also with Horizon.
We loaded them ourselves with a little day labor and unloaded them ourselves, again with some hired help. Loading can be stressful, but you can pack a lot in if done right.
Not sure, but read on KW and perhaps here where people had problems with some agents, not sure if WP was one.

It was dangerous because the only ramps they had at Uhaul were not made for loading/unloading off a semi truck. Therefore, the angle was extremely steep. It was only dangerous for the heavy stuff because I didn't want to get squished. I have heard lots of stories about ramp problems. No one rents the correct type of ramp for these containers from what I have heard. Even when you get it here, no one will rent you a ramp. It's pretty weird, I think. Hope that helped.

Rent a flat bed truck with a hydraulic lift gate if you have heavy things to unload from a container. It can be worth the hudnred bucks. Make sure you position the container to the unloading task with care too. Trying to do heavy work on the cheap is unhealthy and can be dangerous. Spend the buck. Get the right ramps or lift gated truck.

Harpers truck rental in Hilo rules over U-Haul. I second Rob's opinion on a Lift.
I spent Less on UHaul going about 15 miles then I did using Harpers going about 44 miles during my move from Oahu to Puna.
The lift alone paid off in itself. UHaul only has ramps.
Two peoples labor and less then 2 hours transferring stuff from a 20' Young Brothers Container to the Truck and out to Pahoa cost me less then $100. (that is only the Trucking cost's from the Docks to Pahoa)
Harpers charge was going to be 109.00 or something like that for the day... when I returned the truck w/in 4-5 hours... they only charged my I believe $.79 cents per mile.
P.S. be careful, many of these trucks have "Hand Trucks" in them... If you don't read the small print closely.... they will charge you extra for breaking the seal on the hand truck and using it..... EVEN if you have your own handtruck....OR Paid for a rental of one.....(I ended up getting charged the cost of two hand trucks simply because I broke the seal on the hand truck inside the truck to give more room moving stuff in and out.... ended up costing me an extra $8.00 [V]

Thank you Chris, that did help. I was afraid of the angle when you said it was dangerous. Most likely it will be just the two of us, my dh and I, so I will have to take Rob and Damon's advise and check out a flatbed truck with a lift. However I am not sure how that will work since the service WC provides includes door to door but not unloading, I will have to see how I can include the flatbed truck with a lift. Too bad I can't just rent the correct type of ramp.
