RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - leilanidude - 01-06-2022 Not true. The delay on the highway can be 20 minutes or more in the middle of the day. Waiting 2 minutes at the light is a big relief. ----------- You are not understanding that the amount of vehicles that try to bypass the highway backup are actually making the backup worse to begin with. When the light at Shower triggers to let all those folks onto the highway, it stops the flow on the highway. The highway traffic needs at least 2 minute long cycles (not the max 30 seconds they use now) in order to get a decent flow through the light. A side street (Shower) should not be getting any sort of priority to trigger the light and stop traffic on the highway. RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-06-2022 The highway traffic needs at least 2 minute long cycles (not the max 30 seconds they use now) I have never seen the light on the Hwy 130 at Shower Dr cycle red-green-red in 30 seconds. It's always much longer than that. RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - kalianna - 01-06-2022 I guess the 30 sec. cycle is an "alternative fact." RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - Puna Grace - 01-07-2022 Clearly all of the residents, and especially the moms of small children who play outdoors, would really appreciate it if you protect them by staying off the residential streets unless you have business there. It's just the right thing to do. It's about giving up self-centeredness. RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - kalianna - 01-07-2022 I respectfully disagree. I live in HPP. I need to drive these roads to get to the highway. I drive the speed limit. I brake for kitties and kiddies. I can save twenty minutes by taking back streets and I am not disturbing anyone by doing so. Maybe you should try living here for an extended period before passing judgment. RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - AaronM - 01-07-2022 130 has and always will be a clusterfuck. However, imagine if we had an alternate route out of Lower Puna. RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - Puna Grace - 01-07-2022 I respect that you defend your freedoms even though you, " feel bad for those who live on the residential streets getting this excess traffic". While it is difficult for me to reconcile that feeling you have with your newest missive that, "I am not disturbing anyone by doing so..." , you are 100% right, IMHO, that you should not be judged. I feel bad that you felt the need to try to explain yourself. Drive safe ![]() RE: HPP Traffic Pattern - PapaMauiBoy - 01-09-2022 I just wish drivers would stop using 30th and 31st Avenues as a racetrack. My neighbor lost their puppy to a hit and run driver zooming down the straightaway. I don’t like speed bumps, but I guess it’s time for traffic control measures on those two streets that feed onto Kaloli in the AM. Since you are from Maui... If you've ever been to Hamoa Beach, on the last stretch of road through the neighborhood there, you may recall the yard sign that says, "Watch for flying rocks". Those folks by Hamoa seem to feel the same way you do. Evidently some of the commuters using your street feel bad about the excess traffic you are dealing with but still yet they aren't realizing that they are disturbing you when they are that traffic themselves. ![]() Maybe a yard sign of your own would help educate them? Who is "we" and why does this come across as an automatic response from hotel management when you say something was bad and not what you paid for?
