Has a nice ring to it doesnʻt it? And makes just as much sense as changing the name of Loihi to Kamaʻehuakanaloa. More syllables is always preferable. You've got my vote. The new name will be a really long, difficult to pronounce Hawaiian word. Or, just go with Hawai'iloa. Inouye Highway... or Waimea to Kamuela. The old names were quickly forgotten, tossed into the dustbin of history!Waimea is still Waimea. 'Kamuela' is the name of the Post Office named after the first Postmaster in Waimea. Just like how the town of Kailua is still Kailua, Kailua-Kona (with or without the dash) is the name of the Post Office so it can be differentiated from the Kailua on Oahu. Same thinking as the name of the Waimea town Post Office since there's a Waimea on Kauai and Oahu. RE: What’s in a Name? - terracore - 04-03-2024 I thought Kamuela was in reference to Samuel Parker and the first postmaster of Waimea was Reverend Lorenzo Lyons. But your point is well taken, only the post office calls it anything other than Waimea. (the V sound in middle of Hawaii is modern madeup BS) this was phonetically written by educated fakas many times 240+ yrs ago 'O' means 'thats' Whyhee is the real name same w/ A-tooi (ah two eye).........Kauai A-hedo ........ Hilo etc. the true alphabet is 17 letters add in T R V B D ie hare = house.... not hale buaa = pig.... not...... puaa uru = breadfruit..... not ulu bu = hill....... not puu repo = dirty ... not lepo and Tamehameha I or Tamehameha II never used a 'K' in their lifetimes |
