Glad I bought 30 acres, I'm putting my house as close to the middle of it as I can![Big Grin]

I still want a few chickens, tho'.

To Timkona....so I'm a city slicker because I don't like 80 roosters going off all once? Maybe I should record this noise for you to listen to at 4:00 in the morning.
This neighbor does not like the noise himself and stacked his cages has far from his house has he can. Our house is at the back of the lot and his house is in the front of his lot. Hey I have a great idea... I think record the roosters and put speakers up by his house near the property line and let him listen to the music he has created.
I think being a good neighbor has nothing to do with country or city and we moved here from a rural area NOT FROM THE CITY. A few roosters would be fine as many as this guy has is crazy![}Smile

lavalinda:

Timkona is a troll in the classic sense. The person posts very provocative messages in order to get a rise out of you. My best advise is to ignore such base behaviour. Don't reply because it merely encourages more of the same.

I for one really enjoy peaceful surroundings and hope that your situation improves soon.

All the best,
Andrew

Thanks for the tip Andrew ...I will keep it mind

RE: Roosters!!! - punafish - 02-03-2009

My sympathies lavalinda, I used to live next to a guy who had three obnoxious cocks. They were renters (the family, not the roosters) who thankfully moved away the day before we arrived. We eventually connected with the owner of the house through a kind neighbor, and now the landlord doesn't allow rooster renters. In retrospect, had this family NOT moved out I'd have been tempted to toss a few bucks Lackey's way and ask him to make the problem go away. (He has a program that relocates wayward roosters to nicer neighborhoods with an ocean view :-)

Best of luck in solving your problem.

It's much easier to ignore a troll than a rooster...

Lavalinda,

Don’t think that I can help you out on this one. If the birds were running free it would be a different story, but if they are in cages on their own property you have to start thinking outside of the box. Maybe one of these pit bulls that like to grind on birds [forget that I said that] How about the sound of a hawk thru speakers? I’m afraid that you are kind of stuck, but I do like the slingshot and tainted pellets idea.

I sympathize a lot. I hate listening to roosters all night (and day), and have moved just to get away. It sucks that even looking for roosters and avoiding them is no way to be sure as they can always arrive.

I don't think there's anything you can do. It's part of ag land and actually this kind of thing is why I didn't buy a spaghetti lot, because you have no buffer.

I'd say get a white noise machine. Homedics makes a good one with 6-8 different sounds. I find the ocean waves work for me.

If you get all obnoxious you'll just make an enemy.
I don't know the neighbor so dunno if making a plea for your sanity might persuade him to relocate the cages farther from you.

RE: Roosters!!! - StillHope - 02-03-2009

Business idea - barking collar for roosters[Smile]

RE: Roosters!!! - TheodoreJay - 02-03-2009

Well if the neighbor is nice then maybe just talk to him. Rumour has it if the rooster coop is kept really low then they can't extend and crow as much.
You could also figure out what will piss off your neighbor but legal such as something that really smells or looks bad. Then when they complain you are ready to bargain Smile I usually trade favours for equal favours. Like my college roomate who talked on the phone all night. First I turned the radio up to drown out his chatting then kept turning it up till he got the hint & took the phone out into the hallway, ha Smile

RE: Roosters!!! - missydog1 - 02-03-2009

I'm not so sure that kind of tactic works across ethnicities in Hawai'i. Assuming that the rooster breeder isn't haole ... I think it would just inflame things. In certain cultures, roosters are just a part of life, not considered obnoxious, in Hawai'i and other places ...

and the people who want roosters were here first.
Upsetting them with something noxious - they won't buy into the psychology, you will just confirm any ideas that your kind is not cool ...

I had a problem with my neighbor's burning trash and the smoke coming in my bedroom. We talked about it. Luckily he understood it's no fun to be choking. Had I done something like turned my radio up to the max or promoted noxious odors - I don't think any good would have come of it.

btw, this same neighbor has since then helped me out more than once and I really like them and am so glad I never got into it with them over loud parties, loud vehicles, or their dogs' barking ... all of which are not my favorite, but it's their lifestyle.

Wouldn't have changed anything and would have lost a good relationship.
That said, 80 roosters is real tough to put up with. [Sad]
