RE: A cyber space how to question - Blakeyboy1 - 05-18-2009 Get a new sales job with Wordpress Damon? Good luck with that ;-) -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: A cyber space how to question - PaulW - 05-19-2009 As an alternative to blogs, you can have a website for free with Google: http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html I've set up a simple website and it seems to work. If you want a comments section then I'd suggest you pre-approve any comments before they appear, on a school-related website. Not sure why Damon said you shouldn't ask for any technical help here, of course you can. RE: A cyber space how to question - dakine - 05-19-2009 There are several blog spaces designed specifically for educational blogs.. which may be well worth ones time to investigate. All 'free' blogs are in it for the money, and to find a blog space that will limit their economic concerns (ads place on your site etc.) to be in line with the intent of an educational site may go a long way towards making your site what you envision. A search on Google under "school blogs" or "educational blogs" my lead you to several sites that would be much more in keeping with your intent than the more 'popular' sites being suggested here. After all, if I was a teacher I would feel having advertisements on my site to be counter to the purpose of communicating with my students and their parents. Good luck! RE: A cyber space how to question - Guest - 05-19-2009 FWIW - The entire time my blog has been using the free version of Wordpress... Not once have they ever placed an ad on my site. All of my ads are controlled by me and all income goes directly to me... (not wordpress or google) --------- Damon Tucker's Blog FBI Blogs RE: A cyber space how to question - dakine - 05-19-2009 quote: wow dude! you mean you clutter up that ugly site of yours with all that crap yourself! man you're a bigger idiot than I thought! An idiot that enjoys the extra $120.00 a month to spend on things that I like. I really didn't intend this to be a debate over the merits of vaious people's blogs. Carol RE: A cyber space how to question - Guest - 05-19-2009 Sorry for replying to a personal jab Carol. I really see a lot of great things that I think your class could do with a blog. You could set it up so that you are the administrator and have each of your students have their own individual blogs. Those blogs you could have the feeds fed to one direct classroom blog so that the classroom blog is constantly changing. You could even solicit ads or if your blog gets popular, you may even find people wanting to put ads on your site. That money could go into a direct fund to provide scholarships to those kids that are blogging on the site. There is really a lot that can be done. The Elementary kids at Kamehameha learn to Blog before they learn to make websites from my understanding of the curriculum. --------- Damon Tucker's Blog FBI Blogs RE: A cyber space how to question - Guest - 05-19-2009 Carol - Since you won't be on a DOE server... I highly suggest incorporating youtube with your blog as well. Here is an example of a local high school using youtube to showcase the kids doing community projects. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfmWiMiYIDc --------- Damon Tucker's Blog FBI Blogs RE: A cyber space how to question - Devany - 05-21-2009 Carol, I like both Blogger and Wordpress. But I do think that Blogger has some widgets and things that you cannot find on Wordpress. If you choose Blogger, I will help you. Geesh Damon, you are such a bully sometimes!
