RE: Jobs in Hawaii Resource - Ironman - 11-28-2006

Folks:

I am still serving the public interest as a civil servant and my agency Dept. of Labor runs an employment site called "America's Job Bank" It is three times as big as Monster and it is absolutely FREE courtesy yours and my tax dollars. Do a google search and you will find it because we aren't supposed to be so visible as if we were competing with industry.

Check out the daily stats of jobs available!!!!!!

Folks:

Seems that my previous post got truncated somehow. What I was trying to communicate is that your tax dollars already support through a state grant the folowing job finding/relocation services through the U.S. Dept. of Labor: http://www.ajb.dni.us/ There are Career "One Stop" offices located in each state/town/city nation-wide. I have been to both the Kona and Hilo One-Stop Centers. There are allot of free services etc that are available there like free computer time to write/submit your resume to any and all of the jobs available in the database. The AJB supports job seekers and employers who want to list available positions. AJB is three times bigger than Monster and growing!

RE: Jobs in Hawaii Resource - Carolann R - 01-11-2008

Well, after 16 months and many applications and interviews I heard just this morning that I have a job with the State. I am beside myself with joy. I don't know that I will ever appreciate a job more than this one LOL!!! The people I will work with are just great and Tony and I have similar hours in Hilo, so will save on gas and wear and tear to the cars - carpooling together. It's all good...I have great faith that 2008 will be better than ever!!

I also feel good that I got to see the process work for State jobs...you are scored on your abilities and then they have to send their recommendations BASED ON YOUR ABILITIES to HNL for their research into your past. So, although there seems to be a slant to hire people that are local, the truth seems to be that they are very strict about scoring and testing. There were several tests to complete.
