RE: No TV reception with antenna - Guest - 08-01-2010 I thought analog TV was dead. Aren't all signals supposed to be digital now requiring a digital descrambler? RE: No TV reception with antenna - kimo wires - 08-01-2010 I still get channel 34 and 45, local stations, I guess they're still broadcasting in analog. Anyway the signal doesn't act the same as digital. No digital hickups or blackouts. just lousy reception. Now, this evening, all the digital channels aren't working again... Arghhh!!! One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected. RE: No TV reception with antenna - TomK - 08-01-2010 Yes, 34 and 45 are analog channels but the other over-the-air channels are digital and they're all down this evening. Kimo - I use rabbit ears as well and usually the reception is very good. For the last day or two the signal strength has been excellent but the picture rubbish which is why I don't think it's a reception thing, I suspect the towers were receiving a bad signal and then rebroadcasting it. Interesting - I just checked the signal strength right now. It's excellent (85% for 4-1) but a blank screen. It looks as though they're broadcasting but there's no picture. Tom RE: No TV reception with antenna - Aaron S - 08-01-2010 The recent fiber outage caused the OTA signal to go dark. The local TV stations recently had to move their Maui transmitters. The new location doesn't of a LOS view of the Oahu transmitter. So, they have to transmit the signal via TW Telecom/Wavecom's fiber. RE: No TV reception with antenna - TomK - 08-01-2010 Aaron, I understand that, but are you saying that just happened this weekend? Apart from tuesday's blackout everything's been fine until yesterday. Tom RE: No TV reception with antenna - TomK - 08-01-2010 PS. Just checked and pictures are being broadcast again on the digital channels. There's still some degradation (it's like watching satellite TV in a heavy rainstorm) but it's better than yesterday. For comparison, signal strength for channel 4-1 is down from earlier this evening and yesterday yet the picture is better. In my mind that just confirms that it's a problem at the source and nothing to do with my reception. Tom RE: No TV reception with antenna - kimo wires - 08-02-2010 TV is back on this morning. Up and down...Up and down. Signal and picture is good. How long will it last? RE: No TV reception with antenna - Aaron S - 08-02-2010 Tom, It wouldn't surprise me they've had to re-provision circuits due to the damaged fiber. OTW had to reroute connections to LA and back to Hawaii for a time. So, please expect further outages until they permanently fix this cable. |
