RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Eric1600 - 09-07-2016 Just saw this editorial on star-advertiser about PUEO and the TMT. Thought people might find it interesting. They are planning an event for kids on Sept. 24th too. http://www.pressreader.com/usa/honolulu-star-advertiser/20160907/281745563833418 Edit: I see they are also hosting an event today http://alohapueo.org/pueo-hosts-astronomy-event-gemini-telescope-staff/ RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Guest - 09-08-2016 Here is a recent Meeting or discussion regarding Mauna kea. http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2016/09/06/video-oha-discusses-mauna-kea-sets-hawaii-island-meeting/ Some of those trustees seemed a bit irked or flustered by the woman Laulani in this Video. She was only trying to get answers for us Big Islanders or offer some help. jmo RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - pahoated - 09-08-2016 That is interesting that OHA is going to do their meetings on Oahu. Judge Amano's court is on Hawaii island, regarding Hawaiian lands. These are proceedings and hearings so there isn't any big court decision for quite awhile. Watching this build up is quite the reality TV show. This is going to be great, watching what the state comes up with for the pro-TMT battle, TMT Corp using the state as proxy offense. That's why it is Ha-Ha-Ha-Hawaii-eeeeeee! *Japanese tourist on bus through Pahoa, "Is this still America?* RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Guest - 09-08-2016 This recent article shares some insight on the Mauna Kea and TMT situation. http://hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/mountain-stands-tall-battle-over-telescope-wages-below Who picked the 9-acre Northern site to be the TMT's home anyway? Also, Who allowed It And Why? These videos share some insight on the TMT case hearing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EC1daUFjmQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7s6dwHI_eU RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 09-16-2016 Well, this is a turn-up for the books: "State Investigating Placement Of Human Remains At TMT Site" http://www.civilbeat.org/2016/09/state-investigating-placement-of-human-remains-at-tmt-site/ "The Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources is investigating a case in which someone allegedly disinterred human remains and put them in a shrine at the proposed site of the controversial Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea on the Big Island." RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 09-16-2016 In the meantime: "THINK Fund Offers STEM Grants to Big Island Schools" http://bigislandnow.com/2016/09/16/think-fund-offers-stem-grants-to-big-island-schools/ "Mrs. Richards’ science class at Kea‘au High School received a STEM classroom grant in the 2015-16 school year. Instead of having her students read about decomposition, the students got their hands dirty and created interactive presentations that told the story. “These kids didn’t present dry, written lab reports,” Mrs. Richards said. “They created art to tell their scientific stories. We’re empowering young scientists, thanks to the grant.”" RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - opihikao - 09-16-2016 A complete hot mess. All of it. SMH.[ ![]() We shall see, if what transpires, will be in our best interest (ALL of us). Tired of the rhetoric from both sides, who have valid arguments, yet, fail to realize the impact on our communities. The political influence is beyond description, no matter the arguments. Personally, I am so disgusted with the entire "process" we are enduring (no longer going to debate this issue here on PW; it is "fruitless", and devoid of any sensible discussion, given the topic). JMDO. (Just my disgusted opinion. SMFH.) RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Guest - 09-16-2016 This type of thing has Been happening for centuries atop Mauna Kea. The large Cinder Cone area at the summit of Mauna Kea may have had or been home to many burials before the telescopes. http://www.mauna-a-wakea.info/maunakea/F4_burials.html What does happen or is the protocol when old burials or bones are found by the telescope construction crews or it's employees? Is it common or rare to find these mostly unmarked burials? Does anyone from say the DLNR actually look for these unearthed burials regularly on these new telescopes construction sites? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - MarkP - 09-16-2016 So I notice that the comments following that article about the disinterment unanimously condemn the act. I also condemn what I consider a scam by people I doubt are really sincere in their religious beliefs but I am always suspicious when the comments are so one-sided. Hmmm. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 09-16-2016 Mark - the comments should be ignored. It's just an allegation at this point. I hope it turns out to be wrong. |
