Rj, maybe but is calling the 'authorities' the best way of dealing with it? Not "how do I broach this subject" but "who do I call"? Is there never any attempt at simple friendliness with some of you? I would understand if this was a nightly occurrence, but it obviously isn't. Have some balls and have some tolerance. If you simply ask if a) they can let you know next time so that you can bring the washing in and b) if there is anything you can do to help, you might earn some respect instead of being "that **** that called the fire-brigade on our barbecue." Imho

Maybe, but is calling the 'authorities' the best way of dealing with it?
Just follow this simple Puna Incident Checklist:
- Wait several years before invoking the authorities
- Don't bother with County, call a Federal or State agency
- Check to make sure the neighbors actually exist -- they might be a fake 501c3
- If at all possible, have a political agenda, and use the incident to gain media coverage

I have 3 acres with just a driveway/housepad cleared and the ohia trees are easily above 50 feet tall.
In the cleared area - the whole area gets full of smoke you can wave a flashlight around and see the beam of light clearly like a lightsaber due to all the particles in the air. I am reminded of a car choke full of highschoolers "hotboxing" with the windows up.
For the record, I did not call anybody and I have confronted these people about it before.

You misunderstood my post. I am not calling you anything. I am predicting how your neighbors are going to perceive your actions. If you have talked to them before, then talk to them AGAIN. Go over with a case of beer and ask if there is a compromise to this? I know people always think I'm unrealistic, but open, friendly, honest conversation WORKS. I am just recommending you try that before making permanent enemies of someone you have to live next door to.

When you "confronted" them, did you ask what they are doing? IF they are smoking meat, they may be selling it and may need the money? I really can't say, but everywhere I've ever lived near hunters- has also had people smoking meat.

They are dimwittedly burning green fresh cut wood when the stars are shining. Matter fact think they're vegans, so doubtful UJ.
Yeah I agree Birchl - cause don't see what else there is to do? Fire arrows with message scrolls tied on? (Grin)
Guess smartest thing short term might be to put a tub full of dry cut ohia firewood to them when I go. Maybe some picture illustrations?

Well, there must be a reason why they are burning green wood because its not even that easy to do. 1) they're smoking meat; you could at least compromise on time and be given warning. 2) they are clearing land and burning waste. The uluhe burns green but it's better to take the 'heads' off and pile them to break down and just burn the stalks. The purple flower 'weed' tree is really smokey if its not 100% dry, but makes good fire wood if it is. 3) they're city people who don't have a clue and think they can move to the middle of the rain forest and live in a tent whilst they build their house. (Like me
) most people know its bad to burn green wood, even city chicks like me, but perhaps they just need advice on what to burn and what to stack.#10048;
