RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Tink - 07-21-2016 I wonder if it's going to suck up any energy from the Northeastern pattern cycling around Kauai from her West on around to the East side towards Darby's path. Spread the word. RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Chas - 07-21-2016 Thanks for the links to the NOAA site. ...do you think they could make the various forecasts any harder to read? Winds 34KT???? Plain English please? Thanks to Punaweb, at least I get the translations! RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Tink - 07-21-2016 KT is a nautical term abbreviation for knot, as it is over water, or 1.15 miles per hour. Take their KT number and multiply by 1.15 and you have miles per hour. While it does nudge the storm 50ish miles north of BI landfall from the 11:00am forecast, it also shows the storm no longer making a dramatic yank north and instead going straight through the center of Maui and sending it over towards Oahu. No change that I noticed in intensity from the forecast discussion: This language was interesting: Of note, while the official track forecast indicates Darby tracking over portions of the Hawaiian Islands, the intensity forecast is thus far not indicating significant weakening due to interaction with land due to uncertainties associated with the track forecast. http://www.prh.noaa.gov/cphc/tcpages/archive/?prod=TCDCP3.EP052016.042.201607220303 ETA: Formatting etc RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Chunkster - 07-21-2016 Here is a link to a site run by Dr. Jeff Masters. It shows the official forecast cones and also has a couple of versions of the computer forecasting models. He often posts new computer models that give a close indication of the official forecast will be a couple of hours before they appear on the government sites. Some of those models can be all over the place, but the composite and GFS models seem to track closely to reality. https://www.wunderground.com/hurricane/eastern-pacific/2016/Tropical-Storm-Darby RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Kenney - 07-21-2016 Red Cross activated Shelter Volunteers this afternoon. As a community, this isn't our first Rodeo. Iselle was a great teacher. We know how to prepare. Stay safe everybody! RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Tink - 07-21-2016 Order supplies through Amazon now, then they will be on the first load after Darby hits. Load up at the stores now and gas stations, make sure propane tanks are full and genny ready to go. Community begins with Aloha RE: Hurricane season 2016 - Kenney - 07-21-2016 Ye Ha!
