fighting over a lone carcass... and even turn to cannibalism.

C’mon ElysianWort, you can’t discuss the favorite cuisine of Punaweb members, especially at dinner time, without some restaurant recommendations to go with it.

Lol EW thats what happens. I've even witnessed one fight with himself vis-a-vis a second profile that often shadows the other.

Paul,

"Thanks Jimbo but it was much larger. Mostly white with orange lettering."

Could it have been a coastguard plane? They are white with red trim and include planes such a the C-130. Did you notice how many engines it had or if it was a turboprop or jet?

Thanks TomK. I’m rubbish at identifying planes (or cars or anything) but either is possible. Very different markings though, almost looked commercial but doubtful it was. I should’ve checked flightalert. Hotpe, does it have a history mode? Couldn’t find one.

flightalert. Hotpe, does it have a history mode?

FlightAlert generally lists flights for that day, or earlier that day at no charge. Anything farther back is fee based.

I looked at flightaware.com and you can look back in time. You can look at flights from an airport as well so I looked at Hilo but didn't see anything that flew over HPP Thursday afternoon other than helicopters. There were a couple of flights for which no information was shown. I also don't think that site shows military flights, so if it was a coastguard flight it probably wouldn't have been shown.

https://www.flightradar24.com/ is a site that also tracks flights but am not too familiar with it so haven't checked there.

This is why its good to be detail orientated in ones observations . Wouldn't u say ?

and you can look back in time.

Yes, thanks Tom, I never noticed the ‘Previous 20’ link on the left side of the flight list, it does go back quite a ways.

There are a number of flights regularly out of Hickham, although they’re not all military, some are freight companies. I doubt the Air Force has a one-size-fits-all transponder policy, but even on bombing runs they don’t necessarily try to hide, as in this B-2 bombing run over ISIS in Libya:

The jets, flying under the call signs “Clip 1-1” and “Clip 1-2,” checked in regularly with civilian air traffic controllers and made no attempt to hide their identity. Yet they stayed over international water to avoid the air space of any country, except Libya.

Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa of Bahrain, who parked his 747 at Hilo for the Ironman contest might be a contender, but would be surprised if a 747 flying low over HPP wouldn't have been noticed by others. On the other hand, it is white with reddish trim.

I have no idea when that plane left Hilo though or even if it has.

There is no more 3 k air clearence policy over the lava flow any more. We will see lots more airborne looky lues.
