Yep, I am an Okie, through and through (I was born and raised in Ohio but had lived in Oklahoma for 36 years so I dismiss that first part!)
That is such a logical way to put one together..yep, I know of Atwoods.....

Yes, we were charged $1000 less; The contractor gets that back from Helco, after they inspect the system. The tax credits come back after the end of the year when we file our taxes.
This is a very clean, first class, professional system, that will last for many years, and with the resale value one would expect. I now have nearly unlimited, free, hot water. I just checked, and my 80 gallon tank is at 160 degrees. This after two showers and dishes.
I just received my first Helco bill since installation. Usage went from 420 KWH per month to 314 per month.

I put my water heater on a timer(The little grey box) $40 at Home Depot. My bill went from $273 to $168. I heat my water from 3:00 to 4:30 am and pm. I'm probably going to save more when i shave another 1/2 hour per timing.

Sounds like a very quick, inexpensive way to cut the electric water heating bill real quick. Thanks for posting this, Puna Kite Man. When I go buy mine, I will tell them they better order bunches.

Why would you need an extra holding tank with a paloma or aquastar water heater? These are the very small units that heat water as it comes through a metal tube via propane flame or electricity. No holding tank is required as far as I can see... I have one set up and the only extra tank I have is to help with water pressure. At a cost of $400 - $600 a unit which can run a whole house, that seems the route to go to me, if we're discussing either a hot water big tank that heats water that we often don't use, a solar system that costs about $5k or an this option. Then again, I'm digging that do-it-yourself method too... good stuff.

You're right, YurtGirl. No holding tank is required to just use your instant water heater. Many are talking about using that as backup for solar. That would have a tank, either attached to the collector or on the ground.

Does anyone know if the state and fed credit (for the solar water heater installation) is applicable to rental homes? I could not find any reference to it online.
