RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - PaulW - 03-05-2011 It's started, the cult are going to send the March of the Brainwashed to this forum. Welcome newbies! Good comparison Greg, I went to one of those too. Even though I was just there for the free holiday, after a while in the "90 minute" (more like 3-hour) presentation I caught myself thing "This doesn't sound so bad". Luckily I snapped out of it. Go for it, but don't say you weren't warned. It's a money-making exercise using Psychology 101 tricks. Nothing more. But...Let us all keep in mind...that if freedom in life is what you desire...then you have to let others be free. --- Life is the only thing worth living for... RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - PaulW - 03-05-2011 "They had carpooled in and apparently the head guy didn't want to drive him out immediately." That's a trick, so that you can't leave when you want. They always do it. If anyone really does "want to see for themself" (and pay $800 for the privilege) please let us know how it went. I'd also like you to do a simple experiment. Halfway during the evening, ask if you can give your wife a quick call. Let us know what happens. Here's a description, from a journalist who went undercover in the UK. Please read before handing over your hard-earned cash. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1257607/Tom-Mitchelsons-weird-weekend-naked-woodland-warriors.html RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - Rob Tucker - 03-05-2011 Yeah Paul. You might be right. I can recall on Boy Scout campouts there was always one who was unhappy and wanted to go home when it got dark. Sometimes it happened and a leader would have to ruin his evening to cater to an immature youngster. Most often they simply had to cry themselves to sleep and leave with the group the next day. I haven't heard of anyone being hijacked and forced to attend anything. If you signed up for a evening group tour of Mauna Kea and decided you wanted to go home when you got there would you expect everyone else's interest to be discounted and their trip come to an end? I think not. I don't know the group in question but it is not natural to me to assume the worst and cast such aspersions. I like Greg's story about being held by the Time Share Cult. RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - silverpenny10 - 03-05-2011 There are many other even more pervasive world wide cults where we willing hand over our hard earned cash and life savings: organized churches, organized medicine, banks, stock markets, casinos, bars, and more. Nobody makes us join (well, actually Obamacare is the exception), and the enticements are plenty. Sometimes it's tough to leave and many people do lose their savings, homes, and lives. We all make our own choices and decide our fates. Displacing blame falsely removes accountability. RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - PaulW - 03-05-2011 No Rob, this is very different. Children can't drive. Even if the location has plenty of parking, they insist that people carpool in or take a bus. If they didn't, then the brainwashing wouldn't work as effectively. Would you want to attend an evening where you can't leave when you want and can't make or receive a call? Not because it's impossible or impractical but because the organizers don't want you to? Not me. I am a big fan of your "Assume the best and ask questions" but when the 20th snake-oil salesman comes into town and you see someone about to buy it, do you stand there and say nothing? I haven't been to MKP, but I know what they are. It is classic cult and brainwashing tactics. RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - silverpenny10 - 03-05-2011 Lorn, Are there intro meetings where people can come to hear more about the program? "Assume the best and ask questions", state facts and allow others to formulate their own opinions based on facts. RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - Wao nahele kane - 03-05-2011 WOW, the transparencies divulged on this thread are absolutely incredible - what an eye opener. E ho'a'o no i pau kuhihewa. RE: Another bad "organization"/cult here in Puna. - Kapohocat - 03-05-2011 It looks like a group that previously (dont know if they still do) hung out at Kalani. Maybe they just got bored with Kalani and moved on to some new life changing paradigm. << Okay I cant say that with a straight face and not roll my eyes. Nothing on the face of it seems too extreme for Puna. |
