Getting windy and rainy here. Reports of a tree down on 37th from earlier this morning. Heard a chainsaw running for awhile but it just quit.

The same thing happened with Darby. There was a nasty wind/rain that came through about 12 hours before Darby approached. It was actually more wind and rain than we saw from Darby itself.

That's because when the eye of a storm passes some distance away, the effects you get are mostly from the outer bands of the storm which can be hundreds of miles from the eye (and not necessarily circular, since storms are often asymmetrical).

good interactive map. Shows wind speed and direction. The time slider shows when the strongest winds will come. Looks like between 2pm -6pm.

According to Hawaii News Now, the actual storm isn't really here yet and they predict deteriorating conditions through the day. Here's hoping that is inaccurate!

According to the 0800 data, the storm was 120 miles SE of Hilo. Since it was moving at 14mph at that time, the closest it could be would be about 90 miles. But if its also veering South it wouldn't be that close.

just now looked at windyty and it doesnt look like its veering south. No visible eye though. Hard to tell where the storm is exactly by looking at windty. Kinda all around us.

I don't think it will be as intense as Iselle.
If you look at the historic record. Iselle passed directly over us and we felt the direct impact of Tropical Storm Force winds. Also Iselle kinda blew up right on top of us.

I believe that windyty is presenting the output of several computer models. It simply tells you what the computer thinks the wind is going to do, not what it is doing right now. It is purely a forecasting tool, and lacks real time data, such as IR satellite, radar or the like.

For those conspiracists out there, here is some food for thought.
Could these two hurricanes Madeline and Lester be manmade, possibly Haarp?

Notice the guy in the video ended the video with Aloha?
Some think The way Madeline has approached Puna or the Big Island is also a bit interesting. jmo

This video is also interesting as this guy could predict our Madeline's fate.

Why does Puna or the Big Island have to be the new target anyway?
