RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Eric1600 - 10-03-2016 http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2016/10/03/video-objections-to-fast-track-mauna-kea-site-visit-raised/ quote: RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 10-03-2016 Many contested case participants did not show up for the site visit after taking issue with the mode of transportation. Should we expect yet another lawsuit, then? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 10-03-2016 cried while we pass the AHU SITE ... it did not seem to be a 187 feet ... taking issue with the mode of transportation If they had served lunch, it wouldn't have been hot enough. No fathers or mothers think their own children ugly; and this self-deceit is yet stronger with respect to the offspring of the mind. -Miguel de Cervantes, novelist (1547-1616) RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - knieft - 10-03-2016 quote: Boy is this bizarre. attorney Richard Wurdeman explained: "At the time of the submission of their proposed recommendations, the Petitioners were also unaware and of the belief that they would be meeting the Hearing Officer at the approved locations and would be ascending the Mauna in their own vehicles. This is a critical point in that the Petitioners’ inability to follow their cultural and traditional practices in accessing the sacred Mauna and observing strict protocols precluded them from any participation in the site visit." This surely can't mean that using their own vehicles is some sort of cultural or traditional practice. Can it? What am I missing? The guy in the video bemoans that they never got out of the van, and thus couldn't feel the ju ju. But he seems reasonable. And wouldn't "cultural and traditional practices" mean that non-alii wouldn't even be allowed to set foot up there? What am I missing? It's almost a bad SNL skit at this point... Cheers, Kirt RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - PaulW - 10-03-2016 http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/04/science/hawaii-thirty-meter-telescope-mauna-kea.html Haven't read it yet so can't comment, but I thought I'd post it for those interested. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - leilanidude - 10-03-2016 Those clowns (aka protectors) weren't so concerned with driving up to the top back when they were blocking the road and constructing the illegal ahu, were they? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - MarkP - 10-03-2016 So people are pissing and moaning that they didn't get to measure the length of the balloon's tether? Should have anticipated that and made measuring it a part of the process. It's theatre anyway. Ultimately, being an atheist, I will bemoan the influence of religious superstition, which this partly is. It is also largely due to the cheap thrills to be had by interfering with such a significant project and getting your 15 minutes of fame. So some people wanted to be able to stop and genuflect? On one level that would have been harmless enough but we are talking about a tiny minority of people who have sought every opportunity be contradictory. Didn't some of these people want to speak in court for ancient Hawaiian deities? That kind of nonsense is NOT harmless. You have to have some standards and enforce them. Society exists in order to make people, some of them at least, unhappy. Obviously rapists and murderers need to be made unhappy and for that I am glad, but it is a continuous spectrum. There will always be those who are left or right of center who feel the sting of not getting things their way. If you think that 2+2=4 and your neighbor says 2+2=5, is it in the spirit of compromise to agree that 2+2=4.5? No, that's just caving in to stupidity. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - PunaMauka2 - 10-03-2016 "If you think that 2+2=4 and your neighbor says 2+2=5, is it in the spirit of compromise to agree that 2+2=4.5? No, that's just caving in to stupidity." The dreaded Golden Mean Fallacy. The sneaky argument seeking to falsely portray a sense of being fair and balanced which only serves to discredit instances where multiple perspectives and compromise really do facilitate better understanding and truth. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argument_to_moderation RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - randomq - 10-03-2016 "If you are too open-minded, your brains will fall out" I feel like this sums up the politically correct establishment that suffers these histrionics. Pity those that believe fairy tales into adulthood, but don't encourage them with attention! RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 10-03-2016 The contested case hearing has now reached a milestone - 300 documents submitted and in the archive: http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/mk/documents-library/ The format has recently changed. Until recently, all the documents were available on one page, but now the entire list has to be viewed via other pages. My thanks to Opihikao for originally posting the link to the archive. What confused me at first is that it says there are 308 documents but 300 is the latest document number (at the time of writing). I think that's because a few of the original documents are not counted in that list (i.e., you have to go to the earliest part of the archive to see the additional eight documents). |
