why HPP leads the league in materialistic mainland NIMBY idiots that should never have picked Puna
All HPP needs to do is build their own schools and corner stores inside the subdivision, that way they never have to comingle with the unwashed hordes.

As far as the Roundabout, traffic congestion is a bummer but I think it will be great once it's completed.

I hope people understand that not everyone in HPP is like this. I found it hard to comprehend when the same arguments were being made during the lava flow emergency. I know it's not quite the same, but whatever happened to neighbors helping each other?
Johnd, if you really feel this way, how about organizing a protest and throwing rocks on the road so no one can use it? Seems a legitimate protest strategy in these parts.
One thing is on an emergency basis, but quite another as a convenience. I don't know one single neighbor in HPP that does not feel the same way as I. If you really live in the subd you would know that we have to foot the entire bill of maintaining the roads. Personally, I would gladly give the whole thing to the County so we could have services; but lo and behold I wonder who or what has pissed off the County so much that they won't do a thing for HPP. Exaggerations to make me look unreasonable, are a pretty low form of argument if you ask me.

But not thoroughfares to alleviate poor County road planning. If the County needs to use our "privately maintained" roads it can do two things:
Take over the maintenance of all the roads within HPP, or pay for usage.

I have to foot the entire bill of maintaining my "private" roads, too, so that County can put their "emergency access" through my subdivision.
Please stop pretending that HPP is different/unique/special in this regard.

Don't forget the gates on Shower*, Kaloli, Paradise, Maku'u, Beach, and Railroad just for good measure. We don't mind a little co-mingle now and again, as long as it's only when we leave the subdivision.
* When Shower Drive stop light is installed it will need an extra long left turn arrow on Hwy 130 from Keaau direction. To allow each driver time required when punching in key-code at the gate.

It occurs to me that I only visit HPP to frequent some small home-based businesses therein; as these trips are "optional", perhaps I should just find alternatives in another subdivision more welcoming to foreigners.

Yes, that's true. If only there were lawns in the subdivision, the xenophobes could purchase "Keep Off The Grass" signs to make their wishes known. As it is, custom made "Keep Off The Lava" placards are prohibitively expensive.
