RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-22-2016 all the water protector's taking a stand... and do everything possible to avoid a similar situation of unrest. jmo And after the Standing Rock protest, I sincerely hope the water protectors return to Hawaii and organize in some way to save us from losing our East Hawaii watershed due to ohia wilt. There's so much they could accomplish here. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 11-22-2016 There's so much they could accomplish here. Only if mankind threatens the watershed with a multi-billion-dollar project. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - randomq - 11-22-2016 At least 'Standing Rock' is about actual oil that could pollute a river, however unlikely. The telescopes threaten nothing, except ignorance. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Tink - 11-22-2016 I'm still trying to figure out how they have the dollar to fly to Arkansas to protest when they have been "wronged by the U.S." And held back where they have to rely on gummit support and still can't feed or clothe their Keiki. Community begins with Aloha RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Guest - 11-22-2016 Good point randomq. Ignorance? Telescopes are not endangered, rare, or sacred these days. There may be something like 328 currently working observatories in the world and only one Mountain as unique or holds such importance and history for it's people as Mauna Kea. Some interesting facts about Mauna Kea within these articles. http://www.mauna-a-wakea.info/maunakea/D1_summitclimate.html http://52perfectdays.com/travel-tips/52-supernatural-places-hawaii-island/ http://www.sacredland.org/index.html@p=449.html RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 11-22-2016 only one Mountain as unique or holds such importance and history for it's people as Mauna Kea Correct: only the Hawaiian mountains are sacred. The rest of the world is just a cesspool. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-22-2016 only one Mountain as unique... as Mauna Kea. And coincidentally, only one telescope, the TMT, has the capabilities that none of the other 328 working telescopes have. It's a good fit, don't you think gypsy, for the one unique telescope to be built on the one unique mountain? Specifically, the committee acknowledged the need to have unique capabilities in studying the evolution of the intergalactic medium and the history of star formation in our galaxy and its nearest neighbors. This telescope would ... achieve diffraction-limited imaging and unprecedented light-gathering power. http://www.tmt.org/about-tmt/history “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - leilaniguy - 11-22-2016 Since Mauna Loa apparently isn't sacred like Mauna Kea what say they put telescopes there? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 11-22-2016 Mauna Loa ... what say they put telescopes there? Hot lava doesn't mix well with billion dollar investments. “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” Leonard Cohen RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - punaticbychoice - 11-22-2016 gypsy69- Standing Rock is a fight against corporate greed. And the protesters there are paying a terrible price for doing so. The "protectors" here are fighting for ignorance and BS. And inflicting a price on many levels on us ordinary citizens.
