I'm totally in favor of traffic calming devices.  If nothing else they should slow down drivers who remain conscious and at least semi alert behind the wheel.

As Obie stated earlier, for a drunk, passed out driver I am skeptical that anything you can think of would prevent an accident there, or anywhere.

"Some of you are just going to argue to argue"

That's you. The rest of us have agreed that not much can be done.

we have about 66 dead end roads, at least some of them have had similar accidents.

What about all of the utility poles ? A young man lost his life a few years ago when he hit one. He took chose to not wear a seatbelt and was ejected . The flipping jeep landed on him and crushed him to death. Spend millions cushioning all of the poles ?

Maybe some kind of rumble strips?

This study addresses the responses of inattentive, sleepy, and impaired drivers. The study also addresses noise concerns.

Obie, I find you offensive for many reasons- your arrogance, your dismissiveness, your nastiness. Still, I hope your surgery went well.

And no. I am practical. And I believe in applying practical safeguards to the BEST of our ability. So "cushioning" telephone polls would not be a solution I would promote. However, that does not rule out that I would not research the issue and see what other options are available that might save lives.

RE: Crash at Bottom of Makuu in HPP - Durian Fiend - 04-07-2025

Rumble strips could be a consideration. Obie mentioned in post #6 that they could possibly be bothersome to immediate neighbors.

Did he sustain an injury as a result of this accident that required surgery?

Patricia, since you've accused a number of people in this thread of arrogance I think you better look in the mirror.

I just read about another HPP one car accident last Thursday on 26th Ave.  A car drove into a power pole, snapped the base, car rolled on its side.  Emergency responders couldn’t immediately extract the driver from the car because they believed the power lines were live.  HELCO had to respond before the driver could be removed.  Neighborhood lost electricity & internet service.

RE: Crash at Bottom of Makuu in HPP - Patricia - 04-07-2025

DF what are you talking about? Obie was not in an accident, as far as I know of. He certainly was not involved in the crash at the bottom of Makuu.

As for rumble strips, the article I posted addresses noise levels. If you read through it, you will see that.

HOTPE yes, another bad accident. And again, I do not see "cushioning" power poles as an option. We would need to research that (how many power pole accidents, do they occur at the same place, do the places these accidents occur have similar traits) and see what an engineer's
recommendations would be.

what an engineer's
recommendations would be.

Engineers can make recommendations. They can also note that you can’t account for every type of bad driver. Which is why there are not crash barrels around every power pole or rock wall, or rumble strips everywhere someone might fall asleep or pass out at the wheel.

Patricia,

I'm curious why you would post personal information about me and where you got that information?

This information has not been posted on Facebook or Punatalk and only shared with very few people.

Obie, I apologize. I did not realize it was something others were not aware of. It was mentioned to me in an email, as the reason you would be attending the 1st executive session tonight and why I was relegated to the 2nd. Not that either executive session matters to me. I had already informed the board that I had no intention of attending. Their "process" is flawed.
