RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 01-10-2017 This means that sacred places are at the core of our native beliefs. Perhaps "they" could publish a map of these sacred places? I want to know where other potential desecration is happening. Developers might want to know where to not bother applying for permits. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - punaticbychoice - 01-10-2017 glinda: I agree with Eric1600. TMT is good. It will help us all, including here in Hawai'i and Hawaii and may save humanity. Mauna Kea is the best place for its mission. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-10-2017 From Ku Kahakalau's written statement: I am a native Hawaiian educator, researcher, scholar, composer and recognized expert in Hawaiian language and culture... Moreover, I am the first person in the world to earn a Ph.D. in Indigenous Education. She is clearly an educated person, however in reference to her doctorate in Indigenous Education I would like to note it was obtained from Union Institute and University a distance learning school, with varying requirements over the years sometimes allowing for "life credits" and sometimes not. The school has been investigated, put on probation, and their PhD program was for a time not accredited, although now they appear to be "regionally accredited": http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/union-institute-and-university-phd-cincinnati-ohio-c324477.html This may have no bearing on Ku Kahakalau's PhD, but I thought it worth mentioning that her advanced degree was not received from from U of Hawaii (where she lived and which has numerous Hawaiian Studies professors and doctorate advisors), or another more traditional public or private university. "Only fear real things, such as minds full of delusions." -Last Aphorisms RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - knieft - 01-10-2017 quote: Oh, enough already! What exactly is an ancestral gauge? And how might I have mine calibrated properly? I suppose I am beyond hope...but to my mind aloha and malama are concepts that support the TMT. I am so sick of magical thinking masquerading as Truth that trumps reality, that trumps every logical point, that "elevates" the magical thinker to superior status and immunity from reason. I am not naive enough to think that the "I'm so spiritual and aloha-ish compared to you" drivel doesn't resonate with a particular percentage of the human population. But I do resent that these folks think they should decide on something as important as the TMT. Embarrassed of my species... Cheers, Kirt RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - PaulW - 01-10-2017 "people with a history of expansionism, fueled by a religion instructing them to “subdue the earth” and use it as a commodity to be exchanged for profit at every opportunity" People pushing one religion shouldn't ridicule others' religions. For the hundredth time, the telescope is not there to make a profit. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - knieft - 01-10-2017 quote: Yeah, Western Civilization is evil incarnate and everything else is sacred. Must be nice to have it all figured out. Cheers, Kirt RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-10-2017 "people with a history of expansionism, fueled by a religion instructing them to “subdue the earth” and use it as a commodity to be exchanged for profit at every opportunity" Here's another possibility: * people with a history of expansionism: Polynesian sailors spreading across the Pacific? * subdue the earth: Kamehameha? * commodity to be exchanged for profit at every opportunity - open pit basalt mines, sandalwood, etc "Only fear real things, such as minds full of delusions." -Last Aphorisms RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - PaulW - 01-10-2017 "the highest peak not just in Hawaii but the entire Pacific" Uh, no. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - 2liveque - 01-10-2017 quote: There are several folks in the UH and DOE community with advanced degrees from Union. I don't know how to read in to that, but all of them work with Hawaiian programs. The fact that Union offered an on-line PhD certainly disputes why Ku had not chosen the more "traditional" route. The on-line PhD route in the UH is dismal at best. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 01-10-2017 The conjugation goes like this: We are on a "holy crusade". You are "desecrating". They are "committing genocide". |
