RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 01-22-2017 "Eric Hansen and his crew says more than rocks were found on the TMT 9 acre site and that more studies should be done." What nine-acre site are you referring to? As for video 55, Hansen's testimony becomes particularly interesting (and, in my opinion, extremely over-defensive) at the 86 minute mark. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Guest - 01-22-2017 TomK, good evening to you sir. Interesting how you could recognize Eric's defensive behavior in that video Tom. Eric may have been a bit defensive due to the many repeated lies that folks like yourself have been telling for years about the TMT site being lifeless or nothing but rocks. How could astronomers like yourself Tom not recognize the many forms of life or the signs of life on the very summit you work on? Aren't astronomers like yourself currently searching for possible signs of life on other planets millions of miles away? Astronomers could learn a thing or two from good folks like Mr Hansen. For example, they could learn what kinds of life to look for or how to best find this possible life on other planets and how to respect it when they find it. jmo The TMT and millions to visit would be built on the 30 plus acre site known as area E. The other dozen or more telescopes atop Mauna Kea were built on and around cinder cones "homes to the once endangered wekiu bug". The TMT would be expanding the telescope subdivision out to area E and would be being built on top of much more life. jmo http://www.tmt.org/observatory/site-information/frequently-asked-questions RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 01-22-2017 "Eric may have been a bit defensive due to the many repeated lies that folks like yourself have been telling for years[...]" Whereas you are a bastion of the truth. Right. What about that 9 acres claim? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Chunkster - 01-23-2017 The ultimate and appropriate irony for gypsy will be when his kids get educated (elsewhere from what we're told) and can't find jobs here. Thus he will have "saved" a Hawaii with no economic opportunities, for the so-called natives or anyone else. He should ask his Ivy League student son for a definition of "Pyrrhic victory." RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-23-2017 Astronomers could learn a thing or two from good folks like Mr Hansen. For example, they could learn what kinds of life to look for or how to best find this possible life on other planets That's an excellent suggestion gypsy. From all reports Mars could be quite similar to Mauna Kea or Mauna Loa where they're conducting Martian habitation experiments at HI-SEAS. Perhaps Mars still harbors some simple life forms such as lichen deep within the more protected lava tubes of the planet. I wonder if this concept of one person or group listening and then learning from another could be applied elsewhere? For instance, I notice at the TMT Contested Case hearings many questions are repeated, even though they've been asked dozens of times already. Are the questioners listening, paying attention to the proceedings as they sit in the courtroom? Are they learning from the questions of their cohorts, absorbing the new-found knowledge, then asking their own original questions in order to advance an understanding of the TMT project for everyone in the room, and those watching on line? "Only fear real things, such as minds full of delusions." -Last Aphorisms RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - kalakoa - 01-23-2017 they could learn what kinds of life to look for or how to best find this possible life on other planets So long as they make these discoveries without the TMT, right? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Aaron S - 01-23-2017 quote: The biggest question in my mind is why this revelation has taken five years to be revealed. If it was such a big issue, why wasn't included in the EIS, which was accepted back in 2010, or during the first CCH. RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 01-23-2017 The biggest question in my mind is why this revelation has taken five years to be revealed. My guess (based on nothing) is that the entire mountaintop is home to the mosses, lichens, and other plants described. Is a single one uniquely suited to survival only in the micro-climate at the site of the TMT? Or can they successfully live and grow on the thousands of acres elsewhere around the summit? If they can grow elsewhere, their presence on the north slope was not an issue 5 years ago, and as with so many other points of contention, it's probably not really an issue now. "Only fear real things, such as minds full of delusions." -Last Aphorisms RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - TomK - 01-23-2017 Since Gypsy is digging a deeper hole for himself, the TMT footprint is five acres, not nine or thirty. Makes you wonder about: "Eric may have been a bit defensive due to the many repeated lies that folks like yourself have been telling for years[...]" Secondly: "Astronomers could learn a thing or two from good folks like Mr Hansen. For example, they could learn what kinds of life to look for or how to best find this possible life on other planets and how to respect it when they find it." If and when astronomers discover life elsewhere, it will likely be several light years away. How would you suggest astronomers respect that lifeform? RE: TMT - Contested Case Hearing Status - Hilo - Eric1600 - 01-24-2017 I don't see any protectors stopping the saddle road construction which is tearing up miles of the mountain disturbing flora and fauna, creating noise and dust. |
