Then they said they'll install anywhere ... for $5/foot.

All good things must come to an end...
Next month my gigabit price of $62.40 was set to jump to the new rate of $468.70!
So I called them to downgrade. They did offer a new "promotion" for same speed for $99.99/month for 2 years, about $109/month after taxes and fees. Too rich for my blood especially considering we never used anywhere near that speed.
They offered other 2 year promotions:
500- $67.60
300- $46.77
I went with 300. After it takes effect I'll post what the real speed is.

Wow, that was fast. Within 5 minutes of hanging up the phone with them my internet quit. I rebooted router.
New speed:
d/l 288
u/l 284.6
On the gigabit plan I had, the max upload speed was 100 and the highest I ever got was 98. So if uploading is your thing, one of the newer plans might be what you are looking for.
In other words, on the new plan my d/l speed is a little less than half of what the gigabit plan actually delivered, and the u/l speed is 3 times faster. Though, I don't really have a use for the higher u/l speed I guess it might be better for gaming.
ETA: Tried some browsing, downloading, Roku, gaming etc. Literally cannot tell the difference between gigabit and 300 level of service. Did you know that there is a Ned Flanders themed metal group called Okilly Dokilly? https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1pDThpnBp-qE3oStpCKKBA

Do you have an ethernet adapter capable of gigabit speeds? Were you using a wired connection or wireless? Based upon your previous posts - I believe you already know the reason I am asking.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to see much difference. I have 100 Mbps cable and checking speedtest against different servers, it seems that there's a chokepoint in getting to the mainland. Unless you're downloading large files or streaming HQ video where you can access a big company's server or multiple streams, going above 50 or so doesn't gain a ton of speed.

Spectrum is coming to mid-HPP. Bye bye Hawaiian Telcom. It was good while it lasted, but not being a priority for fiber really put a bad taste in my mouth. The company received millions in federal subsidies to bring high speed internet to the "rural." areas. So if you look at the press release mentioned earlier, there are many spots on the Big island that will now have access to high speed fiber...including HPP's neighbor to the top, Orchidland. HPP did not make the cut for these new priorities because many of us in the neighborhood already had access to internet. Even if it was crappy internet or download speeds, the company took it as we already have service -- meaning, the priority was now pointed toward areas that had no service at all. Understandable, but sucks rocks for HPP folks.

When I measure speed I do it from my wired computer. And yes, it has gigabit speeds. On wifi the speeds don't come close.
