What is this moth? - Steph B - 06-17-2003 http://home.bairey.net/photos_events_living_in_hawaii.php?pic=755287068moth Anyone know? We've got a bunch of them at our place in HPP.. their wingspan is easily 5 inches. It's not a sphinx moth as far as I can tell, which is the only thing that comes up when you search online for "big" Hawaii moths. There is a distinction, but I don't know what it is. Good luck. It's beautiful whatever it is. Mike RE: What is this moth? - Michael K - 07-04-2003 Okay, here's an update: it's a rare ascalapha odorata! Also known as the "Black Witch". How cool is that? It is indeed a moth as you said, and I found it at this website: http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~ak5t-kmn/hawaii.htm Aloha, Mike RE: What is this moth? - Steph B - 07-05-2003 Thanks, Mike! That's exactly what it is. I couldn't find any info on it anywhere. Now we know! Steph quote: My sites: http://www.bairey.net http://practical-pet-care.com |
