What's going on with Radiology Associates in Hilo? - macuu222 - 09-13-2024
Been trying to call them all week at their Ponahawai location. Phone seems to be dead. So I went there today and they have a guard right behind the glass doors not letting anyone in. They won't say what's going on except to say to check back in a couple weeks.

Deja vu all over again? They were hit by a ransomware hijacking of their entire IT system in late 2022:

While one would think they would have installed some serious firewalls, this sounds a whole lot like that episode. Or it might be something else. They were heavily criticized last time for a lack of transparency.

They said computers were down and they would have to reschedule the appointment until 3 weeks later! Scheduled for this week now but it isn't sounding good...

This story finally made the front page of the Tribune Herald today. The story is probably behind their pay wall, but I'm including a link anyway, along with a few snippets from the article.

Seems the lesson was not learned from last time:
"The security incident causing a computer system malfunction and interruption of service is reminiscent of a ransomware attack HRA experienced on Oct. 20, 2022, that caused the company to shut down all four of its facilities to the public for more than three weeks."
Still stonewalling:
"The Tribune-Herald left a voicemail seeking comment Monday from HRA, but didn’t receive a reply in time for this story."
Customers unhappy and badly affected:
“Many patients have been waiting for their doctors to get life-making decisions from their MRI reports,” an HRA patient who requested anonymity told the Tribune-Herald. “Many people have had to cancel scheduled visits with doctors on Oahu … due to the fact that the doctors cannot get the reports needed.”
There is an alternative:
“Hilo Benioff Medical Center has experienced an overall increase in utilization of our imaging services,” said Elena Cabatu, spokesperson for the hospital.
“Walk-in appointments for imaging services are available at the hospital Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Select imaging procedures require scheduling.
