propane "Tax"
#1
we bought a sweet house in pahoa a year ago, moved end of 2012 and love it. can someone tell us what the propane tax (really is)? propane is advertized at $3.75 on big signs, but when you pay the receipt says $3.90? we took the receipt back and ask for an explanation -- the reply was it is tax (15 cents per gallon). at the gas tank, tax is always included so we wondered what the tax was. i went on-line to find out what the propane tax is in hawaii, but got stuck in governmental "loops" of information and left still not knowing.

thanks anyone for a little further clarification.

It's not a "propane tax" but rather the General Excise Tax of 4% tht is charged on all sales, even groceries....
