Kids Summer Art Program Ages 9-13
#1
3-week summer art classes explore drawing, painting and ceramics in 15 2-hour classes Mon-Fri June 9-27.
Week 1: Hand-building With Clay: uses pinch, slab and coil techniques. Drawing for Hand/Eye Relationships: Students use charcoal, graphite, erasers, and additive/subtractive marks on paper.
Week 2: Glazing Ceramic Creations. Students glaze their pieces. Projects will be fired and ready to take home before the last day of class. Painting with Acrylics through color mixing, dry brush blending, and other methods. Students experiment with oil-based pastels, watercolor paint and colored pencils to translate the values of black and white drawings into color.
Week 3: Experimental Watercolor Class: Abstraction focus using paints right out of the tube. Washes, spatters, lifting, value gradations and dry brush techniques covered. Students create 3-5 paintings.
Soft Pastel Still Life: Stick handling, layering, and value patterns learned. Students follow a circular step-by-step process to form shapes and embellish detail and enhance colors, using lights and darks for effect. Students work at easels in semi-circular arrangement so each will explore a different perspective of the still life subject.
