Is that pink glow remnents of sunset....

or is that from the lava? Look southish.

Yes it is lava. I see it all the time when the clouds are right. In fact, as long as I have lived here I have seen it from time to time. It was really bright last night. Keep your eyes open, and you will see it. Also if you want to go for a ride you might be able to see it better from about 4th and maku'u.

3 weeks ago we went up to the Onizuka Visitors Center up at the Mauna Kea Observatories. The red glow from the lava flow was huge looking up on the mountain (covering more cloud area than the glow of Hilos' lights!) It was truly awe inspiring.

That's odd. I checked the cameras last night, just about one hour after Nancy posted this, and it was totally black.. Time on camera HST was 19:29.

Must have made big changes in short periods of time last night.

If you drive to Kalapana BTW to the end of the road, you can walk out towards the new black sand beach and have some of the best views of it reflecting on the clouds or just glowing.. The new black sand beach is cool too.
