No restaurants. And Lake Waiau is the lake near the summit you refer to. It has no fish but does have some bugs living in it from time to time. The lake almost certainly doesn't look anything like the time you remember it. About a year ago only about a bathtub full of water was left, but after some storms earlier this year it did grow back again, but it is not as large as it used to be. A drought at the summit over the last few years is almost certainly to blame.
