broadband coming to Hawaiian Acres
#1
A remote DSLAM (with fiber uplink, no less) has appeared at the corner of 1 and C.

Coverage range (assuming "typical" 17500 feet for G.lite ADSL2) should include most of Roads 1-4 (5 and above are a different service area), with the cutoff running diagonally (approximately halfway between E/F on 4, to approximately halfway between F/G on 1).

"Upper dead ends" (3/4 above B) are also within range.

Timeline unknown, but probably "soon" (this year), cabinet is populated, looks like it just needs a meter from HELCO.

No, actual landline DSL.

As to "why here, why now" I can only guess some "free money" was involved.

Yes, it's FCC money:

"With additional CAF support of approximately $1 million, Hawaiian Telcom continues its broadband expansion on Hawaii Island and will deploy service to more than 1,300 additional locations in the Hawaii Ocean View Estates, Honaunau, Keaau, Mountain View and Volcano communities by the end of this year."
