TripAdvisor Update
#1
Just thought I'd check what KathyH and SheaG (both present on Punaweb) are up to on TripAdvisor, after all the lies they spread in the past.
(I wonder if they're still bragging about being best friends with BillyK?)

After slamming Puna for years, I see they have now turned their guns on Kona too. Everything on the Big Island is a putrid mess, except of course for Hamakua (where KathyH lives) and Kohala (where SheaG lives).

I'm, as always, surprised to read that there is still nowhere to swim on the East side, let alone snorkel and that the crystal clear tide pools at Kapoho are actually filled to the brim with human excrement (okay, I am exaggerating a little).

Anybody who wants to counter their lies on TripAdvisor, please go ahead. It won't take you much time because you'll soon be banned and have all your posts deleted, but at least they'll know we're still thinking of them.

Luckily, the TripAdvisor forums seem to have little influence, the tourists (and retirees) are still flocking.

Some classic KathyH (posted last month):

"Something to understand, IMHO, about Puna oceanfront. There is a very thin fringe of upscale oceanfront housing, but that is not the economy or aesthetic of the rest of the area. On the west side, you'll see a whole area of nice homes, of which a handful are oceanfront, but all are upscale. In Puna, it is a sliver of money surrounded by poverty.

I personally don't care for this dynamic. In general, the poor people resent the people in the fancy homes along the ocean. At best they wish those houses weren't there, and at worst they consider them as good opportunities for home invasion. For that reason, you should always query about security and any prior break-ins or attempts. I know the owners don't like to have that said online. They like to pretend there is no crime."

"My husband & I are booking our 1st trip to the big island & have are debating to stay at a rental in the Kehena Beach area or the Hawaiian Paradise beach area."

SheaG, Destination Expert, answers:
"I don't generally recommend either.[...]I recommend a split of 5/2 between the Kohala Coast and Hilo or Volcano[...]Neither Kehena nor HPP are good bases for VNP or Hamakua. Traffic problems getting in and out, etc. The beaches are not swimmable and there are some crime issues in certain parts as a result of the drug culture that pervades the area. It is a beautiful part of the island and I do recommend seeing it of you have time, but generally as a half day drive through."

No matter what people ask, her answer is always "Kohala Coast".

Yeah, they're insane in a eco-nazi/uber-PC/hover-mom/nagging killjoy sort of way, but I quit arguing with them once I realized that what they do reduces the number of tourists and newcomers, which suits me just fine.

Paul'w, have you lost your broom?
Got to admit that I don't know anything about trip advisor, or those two authors you reference too. I have lived good portions of my entire life on both sides of the island though. Just Seems they only wrote their opinion about the differences between the two sides of our island. For the most part I'd even say they wrote the cold hard truths about both sides of living or visiting ways of paradise, jmo. Sure they could have replaced the unswimmable beaches by enlightening the future visitors with some puna charming places to check out, but then they could be misleading.
Let's face it Paul, puna is one of the most poverty stricken places in america, not just Hawaii, jmo. When you take a look around the country for homes or land to buy, you don't find many as affordable or equivalent as Puna's. Nowhere in america could you buy a home with an acre of land and enjoy an ocean view or breeze for less than $200,000.
When you need a reality check, check out pahoa el-inter-and high school. Its always handing out hundreds of free lunches daily, while always in need of new security guards. The Drive into pahoa town must be done slowly as to not run over hitch hikers or trippers that may appear from anywhere. loitering is welcomed, and a common passing of time in town. What ever you do, Never go do anything in pahoa on any 3rd or 5th day of ANY month, Those are holidays celebrated by many locals in this charming town of pahoa.
P.S. The pahoa pool is one of the only few solid places in pahoa to take kids and not be harassed by drunks, or approached by on the spot prescription filling doctors, jmo. Well I got to go feed my pitbulls, lock the gate, turn on the cameras, and make sure I hide my kids toys. Paul, don't get me wrong, I love this place at times too.

IAWTP (I Agree With This Post). Too bad it isn't working, way too many people finding their way here. It does seem it isn't the drek and lowlifes of a few years ago. There seems to be a little more sanity and people aren't asking where is the best lot for $300 anymore.

gypsy, I have PaulW's broom...(Thanks, PaulW, I'll return it after this moon phase. [Wink])

IAWTP (sans the broom part; thanks Pahoated for the abbreviation). Kehena Beach has turned into a real "putrid mess", to be honest. Gone are the days of being able to enjoy our coastline/beaches without some sort of vile behavior.

As to the TripAdvisor info, guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, and individual intention(s).

Enjoy the evening, all. Life is indeed short.

JMO.

P.S. And, it's Merrie Monarch time! (Sorry, O/T)

Seems they only wrote their opinion

As are the people responding to their opinion.

Opihikao lol, I have a good broom and have been holding onto it for some time. Also have to agree with your comments about kehena beach, haven't taken or allowed my kids in years. Not many places anymore like the old queens bath out at kalapana, guess I knew that when Pele reclaimed it. Hope you are enjoying the Merrie Monarch and the ohana is healthy and happy.
