Here's the latest update on the Pahoa Bus Hub.

The preferred lot which is owned by someone who may or may not be the councilwoman's uncle - - does not have the required environment study and approval:

An administration plan to fast-track a bus depot for Puna by buying land from a politically connected property owner has been derailed by the discovery that the property doesn’t have the environmental clearances the county thought it had.

There's more. It's best to read the entire article, but the Bus Hub is becoming more quotable than Caddyshack:

* (lot owner) ... Gilbert Aguinaldo... a distant relative of Puna Councilwoman Ashley Kierkiewicz. Kierkiewicz refers to him as “my uncle,” but the relationship is too distant to violate any county rules.
* “I had believed that the environmental assessment had been done,” Mass Transit Administrator Brenda Carreira told the council Wednesday.
* Two of the parcels are government-owned and wouldn’t require purchasing.
* “I started to see a pattern that worried me, and started to ask questions — and that’s why we’re sitting here right now,” Kanealii-Kleinfelder said.
* “Pahoa has been waiting a long time. … We have to make at least some movement, even if it’s symbolic at the time...

Yes, let's make a $1.5 million symbolic gesture! As opposed to spending that money to actually repair the bus fleet.

We do need somewhere to park all the broken-down busses, and I'm sure the "right people" think they would look better in Puna, so this is really a wise "infrastructure investment".

a wise "infrastructure investment".

And a twofer.
If thieves could enter an “armored” truck last Monday & make off with a $half million, there’s homeless in Pahoa who could certainly figure out how to get inside a broken down bus. Or even under.
