Surely my 3M respirator with acid-gas filters will help a little? It gets expensive preparing for all these disasters...

I get sick evertime I go to Walmart. The only thing I touch in the store besides what I buy, is the shopping cart handles.

Way back when VOG was an issue I bought a 3M mask and acid filters. I also bought some round P-100 filters that fit the same mask after removing the acid cartridges. Furthermore there is an adapter that I bought that snaps over the acid cartridge and allows the P-100 filter to be mounted in series, pre-filtering particulates out before the air gets to the more specialized cartridge.

The P-100 filters are 3M 2091 P-100. The adapter is the 3M 502 HEPA Filter Adapter. When I say adapter and filter I am talking pairs as the mask requires two of each.
