Earthquake swarm (5.1, 4.9, lots of 3s) near Punaluu
#1
Seeing all sorts of activity on my quake alerts. All epicentered right around Punaluu beach.

Coincidentally, the tiltmeter at the summit of Mauna Loa went crazy. Maybe it's real tilt, maybe the 5.1 just shook it.

Anybody care to guess?

Guess: Punalu'u Slump about to fall off into the sea. Followed by Hilina Slump, then all of Puna. Mauna Loa eruption will pour over the newly created 1000ft sea cliffs into the sea.

Survivors will get together to reminisce about all the building codes they had to follow to build on the now non-existent land, and how the geothermal fracking and weight of the telescopes on Mauna Kea caused it all to happen.

The offsets, wild swings, on the tilt meters, both Mauna Loa and Kilauea, are the record of the eq passing through their locations. Not a change in the ground changes they measure.

There is no sign, as yet, that there is any actual magma movement. There is no sign of an increase of tremor anywhere. Here's a cross section view, of depth plotted over time. The plot shows the last 4 weeks, and todays swarm is seen as a stack, all today, on the right side of the graph, up to a few minutes ago..

All things considered.. I wouldn't be surprised if we have more, and potentially larger, events if we really are poised for a Mauna Loa eruption..

Flight Operations Planned For Mauna Loa, Kilauea Volcanoes

It has been suggested that there will be a lot more flights when the vulcanologists get seriously suspicious.

MyManao, as always, I appreciate your timely eruption responses.
Certainty will be the death of us.
