airport parking price hikes effective 2/1/24
#21
(from news article) "Airports serving Hilo, Kahului, Līhu‘e and Honolulu stopped selling monthly parking to the general public in 2017"

They may have stopped selling them, but they have not discontinued them being used. At least here in Hilo.

My husband and I have had our monthly pass since the turn of the century. In fact, as recently as yesterday when I escorted a neighbor lady to Honolulu for a medical appointment and back it worked fine. And we get an invoice from ABM every month.

"t's Turo owners. And for KOA to be the final holdout somebody in the decision making process was renting out vehicles via Turo.

There is a very sternly worded sign at the Hilo lot exit that forbids this! I can't imagine anyone violating that very strict sign!

One reassuring thing for me upon our exit from the Hilo lost yesterday evening - a lady in-between the credit card booth and the cash booth - with her clipboard - feverishly writing down on paper with pen - everyone's license plate number! I assume the golf cart broke down!

Interesting.  You pay X dollars per month for this pass, every month of the year?   Probably not many others doing this.

Yes. It was $160.00 a month - which was a break even of 10 days at the old rate and now the monthly rate is $189.00 which at the new rate is a break even of 8 days.

My husband and I do travel off island for both business and pleasure so it’s quite worth it in the long run.

I have no idea how many of these monthly passes have been issued, but back when we first found out about them (early 2000) the lady at the payment booth was seemingly insulted that we didn’t have one when we were gone for 22 days and paid the daily rate. We got the monthly pass the next day!

The good old days, when airportparking was just $3 a day!

Hopefully an enterprising little bird who is still here, perhaps in the same location, will reopen the lot, make big donations to Punaweb, and restart reasonable parking rates now that the commercial lot costs even more.

Sounds good to me!

And a really good enterprising little bird might even toss in free battery charging for us EV owners - and on stays of 7 days or more, greeted upon return at ITO baggage claim with a freshly baked piping hot PIZZA!

Might even make one yell SALAMAT!
