new eruption 2024 thread
#11
I did say "goddesses" at one point! We need to find a non-gender word for god/goddess. I could use "diety," but what's the point? Someone will get upset if Pele is referred to as an ungendered entity/being. On the other hand, MyManao mentioned "gods," so I think it's up to him to determine their gender. I suspect the diety HR dept will have a fit about that, but obviously, someone is delegating jobs to them

One would think that Pele could at least inform us of acceptable pronouns to properly address this entity/being without any offense.

Iʻve never seen an "almost eruption" before. This might be one.

I was gonna comment in more detail on this.. ie cite all the other times we've had open vents that billowed gas and glowed but I've been waylaid with demands at work. But before we get caught up in the new eruption that started this morning..

For instance Puu Oo, when Kupaianaha was erupting and the magma was assumed to be passing under it to erupt at the lava lake further down rift.. glowed at night..

That red dot seen above at dawn was actually a large gas flame that was there for most of the time before the cone started collapsing.. and then when it did the glow grew.. as seen in this pic taken a while later from a similar vantage point where the glow is more subtle in the image but you can see that it is wider.. ie the collapse started and lava was again inside a crater there.. while Kupaianaha was erupting in the foreground...

I lost this thread amongst all the blather. Beautiful pictures. Looks like two vents going off in the crater tonight.
