The only way forward is to co-opt Tic-Tok.  If we ban it China wins because they force us to discard our values (and behave like them) for safety.  No bueno.  If we leave it as it is, our safety is in peril. The third way is to gain control over it and that is the plan. Winning.

If Hawaiian Tic-Tok authors make money from stupid people, well, that's just the way the world works. Tic-Tok is not a drug; it's not designed to make people stupid, it just attracts stupid people, and that's how it makes money.

Making money off foolish or objectionable content isn't the issue. National security concerns, ya know?

US, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada have already banned it from government devices.

That might be the case, but it's a lot different from banning it for a whole country.

Yes, that's certainly my opinion. I never said anything about only stupid Americans using the site. That's your claim and misinformation. In addition:

What matters then is who "co-opts" it. Perhaps maybe another venture for Musk*?

And being clear here, the reason for and the provisions of the “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act" was to do just that, co-opt TikTok from its Chinese based owner within a certain time frame, that did not occur, thus the ban took effect until the ban was lifted by Executive Order one day later and the deadline for any such co-opting was extended for 75 days.

At any event, the only way China wins is if and when TikTok is ever sold to some form of American held group. 

If not, its banned. 

And if it does get banned, while the political rhetoric can be ramped up by China (and some Americans) to claim China won over America, it will lose BILLIONS.

And at that point the "winning" is imaginary!

Besides, who really gives a crap about TikTok anyways, when the real story is on Instagram, where Justin Bieber unfollowed his wife, Hailey. Is there ANY GOD???

Oh dear, I didn't know about that. Are you sure it wasn't also on X, Telegram, Reddit, Facebook, etc.? It doesn't matter; I don't use those services either. Even if I did, I wouldn't have spelled his name correctly and would have found something about wildlife building dams. Frankly, the latter would be more enjoyable.

I was so shaken and upset by the news; I could not bring myself to check all my other forms of my social media addictions. As you can see, I was so taken back that Justin unfollowed his dear sweet wife, that I misspelled his name! I did correct it however!

At any event, I did comfort myself by watching Barney dig about a 1 foot wide by 6-inch-deep hole in my yard, which is almost like watching wildlife building a damn! Except that I had to give him a bath!
